How many attempts to pass your driving test?

How many driving tests did you take before passing?

  • I'm sooo old, they didn't have tests in my day, they just gave you a licence and off you went

Although I'm licensed to drive stick-shifts, these days I only ever drive automatics - can't be arsed with all that gear changing shit. I mean, if a car can do it for you, why do it yourself?!

i've never driven an automatic, i like changing gears and the whole clutch experience :)

Failed twice when 17/18, then gave it up for 10 years, then did it again and passed. So 3 times, though it felt like I'd passed first time after so long!

Similar for me. I failed three times when I was 17/18 (mostly through nerves) then gave it up and went to Uni. Tried again when I was 24 and passed, because by then I didn't really care.

Had a 540 the other day  - knew I should have done the brake upgrade  :o

(1st time, after 12 hours of lessons)

I knew there was some reason why I haven't been in that car.

1st time car test. Didn't even get to my bike test after falling out with instructor spectacularly... my only regrets are (i) that I didn't do him any real harm and (ii) not suing Metropolis for my money back.

passed first time, though missed my theory pass first time by one point, who knew reading that crazy little book would help, highway code or something?

Got my test booked for the end of this month.Driving instructor reckons the average first time pass rate is about 15-20% on firsts go and 45% long term.

Learnt to drive in Swansea,if you can pass your test there (narrow 1 in 5 hills on test route) you're doing all right.

I had a friend who used Beta Blockers to calm her nerves during the test (her BF had a heart condition). Reckon I could do with some as well.

failed twice in swansea :(

and my sister used beta blockers after failing 4 times, sailed through on the 5th

I have a mate who passed on his 11th attempt...

I reckon the car test is about 50% being able to drive and about 50% being able to cope with the stress of having someone scrutinise your every action.
I find it difficult enough to relax with a driving instructor sat next to me!

I was scared, there's this awful moment when you leave the instructor in the centre and walk out to the car with an examiner, but it went ok, there was a massive shower so I had to go slowly anyway, only got two marks against me.

3rd time - all three as a teenager, failed the first two through constant minor nerve - related ineptitude... then despite me blocking the dates off, they sent the third test date for right in the middle of my A levels - i had my mind on other things and breezed through.

Then didn't drive for four years, til I bought my first mini, so I had a couple of refresher lessons. Love driving - my dad gave me hisd old automatic last year, so I sold my 2nd mini and now drive the ugliest most boring car in the world. Driving is useful for supply teaching, visiting people around the country, and as and when I have kids it'll be invaluable, I expect. (Buggies, buses, shopping, rain? - i'd rather not).

I used to hate that my ex didn't drive, it's nice to split the driving on the long hauls.

My first time I really thought I was gonna pass but had a major fail and only 3 minors so maybe too confident.

My 2nd I didn't tell anyone my best mate had died 4 days previous and I even told my driving instructor "To be honest I couldn't give a shit if I pass or fail" must have been really chilled out or rubbed off my grief on the examiner cos i passed.

Couldn't even do the reverse round a corner he just said "Ok lets carry on"

Even said to him "you are joking right" when he told me I passed. Well you know how straight laced they are he said to me in a stern voice "I never joke" and I got something like 13 minors

I'd fail if I had to take it again :D

mrs21 doesn't drive , has never learnt, so all the long haul driving is down to me, which I don't mind as I love driving

it would be nice if she could pick me up from the pub now and again :(

Bastards. Once it was because I didn't look over my right sholder when reverse parking

but i guess if you had hit someone when you werent looking that should have meant that they gave you a license right?

It took me three attempts for both of my tests (car and bike).

Maybe I'm too dangerous to be on the roads ;)

2 attempts for my bike test.

First time I had adjusted the brakes before the test and was failed on the emergency stop because I haddn't pulled the brake leaver back far enough even though it was on full !!!!

Passed first time. Thought it was dead easy. A couple of months later realised that I was crap when I skidded, breaked   :o turned the van over on it's roof as it carried on down the road, 3 year old son flew through the window, dog fell out the back :(
After a week in hospital, me and son fine and dog OK too.

Jesus! Glad to hear you are all OK. Nasty stuff.

Passed first time Bike and Car. :D

Failed cycling proficiency test at school aged 11. I was the only one to fail out of the whole year at school. Everyone had their certificates presented at assembly one morning, except me. I wasn't even fucking about - fuckers at rospa had it in for me then - scarred me for life it did.
