How important is the name of the University you go to?

City has a good rep vocationally and high employment rates for graduates - I did well out of my Publishing Studies postgrad there. I'd say go for the course that you prefer for content, if you have any views on that.

I wouldn't say uni has that much effect in the 'mid-regions' of unis, but I note in some fields that some ads actually specify graduates of 'Red-brick universities' - ie, not ex-polys.

Yeah, but I've heard all sorts of bollocks about shite unis suggest some department or other is world-renowned. Big fucking deal.

Would you rather it came from a grad recruiter that pays 45k in their first year? Can arrange for that...

erm kcl most definitely isn't shite! twat.

anyway- city has a pretty good rep, so i would say chose the course that appeals to you most.
you will get more out of it, thus better marks & will enjoy it more.
this will look better in the long run than the fact that one uni has a slightly better rep than another.

And at LSE the vast majority of my fellow-students were on more than that in their first year.

Sadly, that does say something about me not using my degree for cash and being a bit of a fool - but I like my job.

Written by someone who went to a poly, obviously.

They're for people not clever enough to go to decent universities.

But at the end of their degree, they have the same qualifications as those from "better" universities.

If the degree was the same, they may well do. Unfortunately, they're neither the same, nor regarded the same.

Point being, CASS is a good place.

As for 'vast majority', that's just not true. Average salary figures for LSE grads is rather lower than 45k.

it's weird this whole thing, as if just cos you've been to a particular university you;re inherently gonna turn out better than someone who has been to a less better named one, or none at all, that's all fuckin garbage in my experience, it belittles the experience and achivements of the individual and replaces it with some kind of homogeneous idea of a perfect institution that churns out perfect individuals, most of the worse fuckwits i've worked with have been from the "top name" universities, who seem to think that that is enough in itself and makes up for their lazy, arrogant personas

In seriousness, I agree with oisleep on the 'fuckwits' stuff.

The B: the majority of people I know who went to LSE certainly earned over £45K after a year. They were allso working incredible hours.

My achievement in going to LSE was just getting in. Not being there. I enjoyed it, but it didn't feel like a proper university experience.

And to those people from Kings: it's just the rivalry innit. I don't mean anything by it - it still exists in games between the football team I just left (Economicals) and Kings Old Boys.

:)

Well, cheers for that. I might not be the most eloquent person on these boards, or even in this town, but you certainly know how to kick away at people's feelings.

:)

i do agree with this, btw.
my previous post is just a reaction to flimsier. the twat.

I went to UCL, and wish I'd gone to Kings to be honest.. too many posh twats at UCL.. people seemed less up their own arses at Kings.

i love ucl!
but i think life as a post-grad. is rather different than that at undergrad. level.
you are only really involved with the people from your department.
and certainly in my department people are not up their own arses.

nb: this does not really help the op, but i wanted to say it.

to the original poster, do the geography course.

i didn't realise you went to UCL picky. In fact that gives me an idea for another thread...
