Kosmiche supposedly is more the synth rather than guitar stuff
'you know kraftwerk yeah? well stuff that sounds a bit like them'
I admit it lacks the polish of an NME honed genre label
The world needs more music categories.......
Except people will know She's A Model, and that doesn't cover Popol Vuh.
Kraftwerk were trying to get away from all that anyway. They disown their first three proper kosmische album.
It's Ralf Hutter's 70th birthday today, by the way.
Happy birthday Ralf! Best wishes to surely the world's greatest hipster. You Kunst Arbeiter you.
I have a keyboard on my phone that lets me do accents, so I could easily have done the umlaut, but felt a bit embarrassed doing it on a hipster thread.
They're a dab hand with a catchy title those Germans.
I thought hipsters listened to nu-folk?
It think they call it anti-folk
I reckon you're more a hepcat than a hipster danny
"Anti-folk". Says it all, really.
I was listening to the slowed down sound of stridulating crickets earlier, and thinking it was so 2013.
Where does EBM sit on that scale?
What is EBM? Had to google Electronic body music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Belgian New Beat?
I reckon thats "Level 4" Old School EDM
New School EDM is Level 2, but Old School EDM was new for me first time around, so Im counting it as 2 also, rather than as a 4 - I reckon I'm just a level 2 Outsider
It's a bit amusing but doesn't stand up to too much scrutiny really. For example there are surely hipster variants of a lot of the genres mentioned.
There's definitely hipster jazz for example. And what about all those cool retro rockabilly hipster women you see around the place? I guess they listen to 50s pop music?
Ivor Cutler is well up there, by the way.
What is hipster jazz fozzie?
Only the first two albums, well first album and a couple of tracks on the second, were real kreatrock.
I'd tell you what I'm into but you probably haven't heard of the categories (apologies).
check this flyer out // bottom right. No bellends. Harsh i think
One Family in Perfect harmony...unless you look like a sterotypical hipster
I'm not quite sure what I meant by that now...
I'd say entry-level would be some expensive Blue Note vinyl represses.
Then a dalliance with Sun Ra (but not the rest of the free jazz / cosmic jazz stuff).
Then just obscure as you like from any era. Whatever crops up on Youtube. That sort of thing.
That flyer is no harsher than "no hoods no hats no trainers" is it?
I went to this last night:
Cafe OTO → Ulaş Özdemir / Arash Moradi (duo), Wednesday 18 October 2017, 7.30pm
There were men with beards there and some of them were hipsters and some of them were probably Turkish or Iranian. And some of them were maybe Iranian hipsters if that's even a thing.
It's basically 'no wankers' from Monkey Dust in 2003/4ish.
Nah, nu-folk and anti-folk are different.
The first was folk with fey indie elements (or more often fey indieness with folky elements) and the second was folk with punk elements.
edit: I think this post puts me high up on the scale
edit2: The more I read the word 'folk' the more it sounds in my head like the last name of the guy who played Columbo
What have the Romans ever done for us?
also neo-folk, folk music with nazi elements
Or, fascist politics with folk elements (and a severely limited idea of what constitutes folk at that - certainly not the sort of thing popularly taken as folk in this country anyway).
Separate names with a comma.
