Here's a chart to help gauge your level of shame.
What's wrong with field recordings?
If you listen to any sort of self-proclaimed 'extreme metal' or 'noise rock' or 'hardcore' or any of those things that are just a fat virgin shouting at you while people bash shit and stand too close to their guitar amps, if you're into any of that shit you need to have a word with yourself.
Pretty much anything else is fine.
Classical music/opera isn't even on there.
All levels covered. #winning
You're so hipster you're off the scale.
no mention of psychobilly. What happened to that?
Probably because its recorded in a field /beefheart
Levels 1,3 and 5-8 for me. Curious about that bottom level though.
Is a low score hipster or is a high score hipster? I'm a bit confused about this whole hipster thing. Is high or low shameful? Are we doing snobbery or reverse snobbery?
Also kreatrock. What is this kreatrock that you speak of?
I do a google search and I discover only videos for the most excellent Cozmic Corridors. Who only sold about 50 records in their time. I didn't realise they had created a whole miniscule genre.
I listen to many different sounds - some of them are musical, some sound effects, field recordings, and noise.
This chart doesn't appear to have anything to do with hipsteryness.
Oh, if anyone wants to hear the sound of god* then have a listen here:
The Sound of the Big Bang
*Other gods are available. Terms and conditions vary.
Intrigued about wall noise. Seems to be more generally called harsh wall noise.
Field recordings, lowercase, musique concrete and tibetan throat singing aren't for everyone but they're not particularly extreme or harsh which seems to be what the chart is about. And they're not particularly cutting edge or fashionable or trendy which is what I suppose hipsterism is about. Musique concrete is from the 50's ferchrissakes.
ah yes, the genre that gets away with a racist name.
To Hipster is an irregular verb:
I am cool
You are a hipster
They are hipsters
I prefer this one
Probably done using PaulStretch - a program I like to use sometimes
Paul's Extreme Sound Stretch
The kraut rockers themselves mostly hate the name.
kraftwerk apparently hate it. So of course when Lauren Lavergne interviewed them she used the term.
Ambient is my main genre.
its blatantly from an era when hating on Germany was seen as a civic duty - should be put to bed once and for all - political correctness gone right
no bbc radio 3?
What to call it, though? "Post 65 - pre 83 German experimental rock and electronica"?
I think Germans call it kosmiche?
Theres this too Motorik - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
i googled it
Or Deutsche elektronische musik.
Separate names with a comma.
