How fast have you travelled in a car or on a bike?

I did 125mph quite recently in my car. Been on the back of a bike at silly speeds, maybe 140ish. And 47 mph going down a huge hill on my mountain bike, with my brakes 'fading' near the main road junction at the bottom....

Fastest in a car was about 145 in my tuned XR4x4, it still had a lot left in it but I bottled out.

Fastest on a bike about 120 on a Z1R.

I think the fastest I've been on a road was 165.

And I don't even drive. Was hitching from Leeds to Nottingham, assumed the speedo was in km/h until I realised we'd suddenly reached Rugby and I had to hitch back :(

Of course the fastest I've been on land was 190 between Calais and Lille, regularly :)

I was in the front seat of a Pontiac Firebird doing over a ton once.

Not that fast but it being a left hand drive made it fucking terrifying.

"Where's the pedals? Where's the fucking steering wheel?"

0 - 125mph - 11.2 seconds - quarter mile - kept accelerating through the lights hit an angled bump (imagine road camber but not at 90 degrees), all 4 wheels left the ground, landed on front right, front left, back right, back left, that was interesting.

Long Marston Drag Strip, Model T Ford comp altered.

110-120mph when I was young and dumb and had a CRX

110-115mph Honda CB650 (when motorbikes had bendy frames)

120-125 in my old BMW 635CSi. It only scared me when I realised how fast I was going. The car felt perfectly composed (if a little loud - not the most aerodynamic things, the old 6'ers) at that speed. Though to fair, its favorite speed was around 100 - that's where it would end up whenever you didn't pay attention.

Still miss that car. :(

0-100-0 in around 12 secs in a Caterham R500.

Yeah!!! <<Phhttt!!! smiley>>

But you've got brakes and suspension and shit like that . . . . . .

Gosh, that is pretty quick for a road car ;) ;)

It's staggering, it's really hard to get your head around just how fast they are. When you hit the brakes your eyeballs pop out of your head. 500hp/ton and weighs fuck all :D

Yeah, but where's the supercharger, where's the fuel injection and where's the Methanol, open headers, welded diff, parachute, all home made, and NO MoT . . . . . . ya big gayer!!! :D :D

Just had a look at the Caterham web site, it looks home made as well and about as robust as my old Altered.

And about as practical as a day to day car. Shame you couldn't have got a hotted up one!!!!!

What does you mama drive!!!:D

GPS wont be accurate on gradients, it will measure horizontal distance travelled only, therefore underestimate.

Indicated 175mph Paris to Calais on a Honda Blackbird, slowed down due to the fact that my rucksack spewed its contents behind me due to the slipstream

275 kph on the Berlin ' bahn in a 911 - just for a minute though.......i was scared to take my eyes off the road for the milisecond it took to see what speed i was doing

260 kph indicated on a French Autoroute from Paris in an Audi S . pretty scarey as the brakes were a bit hit and miss due to faulty accumulator - not that it would have mattered at that speed anyway

158mph (260kph) also in a Porsche in Germany.

Only managed about 3 mins before the trucks reversing towards me at high speed gave me the willies.

I did mine at dawn on a summers morning - no traffic in sight & a slight downhill stretch........as soon as id clocked 275 , I eased off and headed for Breakfast & a smoke in Amsterdam:D

I was clocked by the filth at 36mph on my skateboard once. I saw the headlights behind me but thought it was another skater helping me out with their lights so tucked in and went for it. The pigs were impressed enough to let me off, just as well as I was pissed.
May have done quicker on downhills in Brighton off the downs and in San Francisco when we got some kids to go down first and shut off the all the cross roads, but no speedometers to check.
