It's bad, but on the other hand a crappy connection is great for limiting porn surfing - you just get so fed up waiting for the money shots to load, it's not worth the bother....

Doesn't matter what I do, the line quality is so poor that's the best I can get. Even using the phoneline for voice is painful - phoning across the street sounds like phoning Australia...

Interestingly enough, when I first moved in and was sorting out the ADSL, Bulldog (scum fuckers from hell), told me I'd get 8Mb, and then strung me along for 6 weeks with no connection before I finally snapped and told them to fuck themselves. When I contacted Zen, the very first thing they said was "...your line's really shit, you'll never get better than 1Mb out of it...". And they were right....

I run a phone extension cable about 10-15 metres from the wall socket in the lounge to the router here in the spare room- is that potentially causing a slow-down? I get told when I ring them that I should be able to get 4-8 Mb/s from the exchange...

i can't do it now cos im downloading but im freedom to surf and it was just under 5meg for download and about 1.6 for upload if memory serves.

You probably won't get anywhere complaining to BT about slow speeds, but you can often get action if you complain about voice quality
