How far do you guys travel to work, and how?

sparrow's not on the boards right now, but she has very interesting and lengthy answers to this thread.

on uni days - cycle to clapham junction for the train to Guildford, then cycle the other end

on work days - currently cycle to barnes (6.5 miles) or cycle to vauxhall for the train to barnes if the weather's ming

but her job changes every 6 months, so she's done all sorts of south london trains with her bike. I'm a bit jealous actualy :D

Stepney Green to Temple on the District line. Takes about 4 or 5 songs on my player.
Bethnal Green to Holborn on Central is same distance to and from tube and quicker ON the tube but a living fucking nightmare in comparison :hmm:

the worst commute i had was during teacher training, clapton to Hounslow for the practice, and clapton to eltham for the learning, 90 minutes seemed quick :(

35 min walk Vauxhall to Piccadilly, except twice a week when it's a 35 min Northern Line journey from Kennington to Belsize Park.

West Norwood to New Cross.

I get the train home which is 30 mins door to door but I have to stay at work 25 minutes after my time waiting for the train which really makes it 55 mins door to door.

In the morning if I get up early enough I get the bus and change at Camberwell which takes about 55 mins door to door, if I get up late it is the train which is about 30 mins again.

east dulwich to parsons green/fulham (although right by the river)(about 9½miles)

eitehr by bus - 10/15 minute walk to the 37, 45-60 minutes on the 37, then 10/15 minutes walk to work.

or a 45 minute cycle.

i *much* prefer the cycle.

South Ealing to Kew. c.2.5 miles, 10 minutes on a bike (12 minutes on the way home cos it's uphill).

Or the 65 bus if it's really pissing it down/I've got a puncture/have gotten too pissed after work to be safe on a bike.

I could get the Piccadilly Line to Hammersmith, then the District to Kew Gardens, but I've not yet had need to do so.

When it snowed, I walked.

It varies but at the moment it's less than a 5 minute walk. However it typically involves a 5 - 10 mile bike ride as I can feel listless without one.

Myatts Field to central Brixton
about 5 mins by bike or about 15 mins walking but
usually 25 mins doing the school run in the car (via Oval and Kings Avenue)

I love the school holidays ;)

East Croydon to Angel.

Walk to East Croydon station, fast train to Ldn Bridge, tube to Angel.

takes about an hour door to door if it all works.

fast trains every couple of minutes in the morning to Ldn Bridge so it's quite easy really.

Manor House to Russell Square for work and uni.

If I could bare the tube I could my front door to desk in 30 mins, but I can't so it's a bus in about 45mins to an hour.

Will cycle once my bike is fixed though.

I go from Peckham to the Strand by bus.

About an hour, door-to-door. About 45 minute bus journey.

I could probably cut the time down a fair bit by taking the overland train from Peckham Rye, but it'd cost more money, and I quite enjoy the bus journey.

Finchley Central to Angel, then 15 minute walk into Clerkenwell. Takes about an hour each way (though home is slightly quicker, I think)

Brixton > Oxford Circus = 15 min
Walk to work from there = 5 min

I either travel at 6:30am/9:30am or 3:30pm/6pm back so miss most of the sweaty armpits :)

for about 5 years until last summer,m commute was 30 mins or less, train to liverpool st (12 mins) and 10 min walk) then a 30 minute walk or similar 2 buses

I miss those days (but not the hackney job) I'd love to work in hackney again, very nice living and working in the same borough

South Quay to East India, 15 minute walk.

From next week, Mudchute to East India, about 30 minute walk.

I don't work in London, but I'd have an easier journey if I did. At the moment, when I'm in the office it's Brighton to Gatwick or Redhill, change trains & get off shortly before Reading... slightly over 2 hours each way if the trains all go to plan. One missed connection and I'm an hour out :(

If I drove, it'd be 2 hours each way as well but with the added delight of the M25 at rush hour !

Thankfully I work at home a lot
