How does your cat greet you?

Orang Utan said:
Cos they've got a better sense of smell and hearing than the rest of us. Their senses are different to ours. People walk differently, smell differently. A car coming up the street will start to slow at a certain point and make a different noise as it does so.
It's either that or they're psychic

I really hope my cat can tell the difference between me and other people who walk up our street, otherwise her meowing and rolling about is a bit of an embarassment :D

Mine does the "I'm going to trip you up" thing walking in front of me, looking around, all the way to the kitchen where he demands a bowl of tuna.

Either that or he stays on the bed and snubs us ...

Malcolm runs manically towards me, meowing in a peremptory yet frantic way, demanding food and attention (this is his default setting though, he does it pretty much all the time he's awake).

Beaker will appear downstairs after about 5 minutes, leaving whatever white-furred nest she's been kipping on for the last 10 hours or so (usually clean laundry or my pillow), swagger over to the food bowl, shove Malcolm aside and stuff her face.

They act like they're not bothered a lot of the time, but Mr K tells me that when I am away they go mental 24-7 and even know when I am about to come home.

My old cat used to wait at the end of the path for me every day after school and then pelt ahead of me like a nutter. Bless his hairy self.

If she's outside and we're back late, she obviously hears us coming down the road and positions herself atop the very tall bit of fence above the gate that leads to the flat upstairs.

I'm not sure how she actually gets up there!

It depends..

1) If I've been out for the day, she waits at the front door for me, then runs away when I enter demanding I find her...

2) If I've been away for longer, she runs away and hides for hours as a punishment, as indeed she does when sensing I am about to leave for a few days (packing etc.)

My previous cat, also a Persian, used to greet me by rubbing herself against my legs. The current Imperial Majesty is far too dignified for that.

Oldest one runs to greet the car, requiring me to stop, get out, pick him up and put him in it whilst I park. (to avoid running him over/having to park in the middle of the street!) Then I have to leave car doors open until he's good and ready to come out!

Middle one doesn't react at all unless he decides it's dinnertime. The dog is his friend, not me.

Kitten hasn't got a "greet me home" habit yet unless it's running to the back door to be let out cos he's too little to manage the window. In the morning however, I'm smacked in the face or my arm's attacked (if I remember to put a defensive arm out) through the banisters as I go downstairs cos he sleeps on the landing and seemingly needs to remind me he's there!

Don't you love 'em. :D
