WEBP is an image format, but generally only understood by (some) browsers so will load in them by default.

    WebP - Wikipedia

You should be able to go to the source image from Google Images and download that, which will probably be in a more useful format.

right click, open image in a new tab or window, go to the newly opened tab with the picture in, right click and save image as to a destination on your computer.

do you mean an image you've searched for?

google image search is behaving oddly today (not sure if it's a bug or a new feature) - seems you can only right click then 'open in new tab' rather than just double click on it. Have had this on Chrome and Firefox today - fairly sure it was normal yesterday

Google changed saving images because of copyright.

tried the open image in new tab. but when you try save it it doesn't save as a jpeg file but rather webp file.

that works, but doesn't save the image to its full size. 1162 x 726. saves as 1009 x 630

You can save it, then open it in a viewer like irfanview you can then save it in any format you like.

    umm

surely it's easier to follow the image to the page it's on, then (if the site will let you) save image from there.

having said that, i've just opened in new tab (from an image search) and it let me save the image.

it may be that the website the photo is actually on is set not to allow images to be saved.

there is a way round it in firefox, view page info then 'media' but it's a bit long winded.

Hey, First of all, you don't explain here which browser you are using but usually, we follow this steps for saving an image from google.
    • If you are using Internet Explorer, select "Download image."
    • A box pops up asking you where you want to save the image to.
