I used to be magnificently, nay gloriously shit at cookery, but having since been married to a fuckin' gourmet chef has sadly shaken me right out of that.

my mum's a great cook, but most of my learning was done as an au pair in italy.

I cook fabulous italian food (given the right produce), but i'm pretty average at other stuff.

mum did give me a sense though, that cooking is just about confidence and understanding what's happening to the ingredients - with the exception of a chapagne risotto i invented once  nothing has ever been a disaster.

It's the getting everything ready at the same time thing that's the hard bit ime

Roasts are easy - its ready meals I struggle with, especially when there are a few dishes that all take different times to cook. I have to get a pen and paper and write it all down working backwards from when we want to eat!

Don't have ready meals very often - far too complicated

My vote was for OK, after attempting spanish tortilla last night, i should re-think, dinner turned out to be a type of scrambled eggs :(

I'm good at boiling stuff.

Vegetables, usually.

Sometimes in a pan on the hob, sometimes in a bowl in the microwave.

Very low maintenance - stick stuff to be boiled in pan/bowl, leave for 20 mins, job's a good 'un.

I've really only learned to cook properly in the last few years, but I'm not so bad at it these days.

With a bit more time, and the use of a freezer, I might be a bit more adventurous as a cook. As it is I've a fairly limited repertoire, mainly of curries, stews and casseroles, some of which are pretty good. And though I do say so myself, my mixed bean chilli is pretty damn nice.

i can cook some things very well and in general bith enjoy and am ok at cooking.

compared to mrs pingu though I am a masterchef (though she can cook a v good roast dinner)

I am a good cook through having made hundreds of horrible dishes and work on the prinicple of I know for definite what doesn't go together and how much is too much and stick to that.

Now my dinners are yum :D

The only things I'm fairly proud of is a selection of biscuits (traditional german christmas ones) and cakes.

Apart from the baking the only decent dish I can make is risotto, albeit in many yummy varieties!

Kameron is a fantastic cook, he knows exactly what works and how, not just through intuition but because of his scientist's brain; and added to that he's got a surprising amount of creativity in presentation. So we just share the workload: he's doing all the cooking and I sit and enjoy. ;)

i'm good at things like cakes, pies, biscuits etc, my gran used to bake a lot and she'd let me help her when I was little so i learned from her:) .
i'm shite at anything fried though - always end up with burned offerings when i attempt fry ups- so I go down the cafe when i want that sort of thing :D .

Put it this way - I love my own cooking to the point I'd rather cook my own stuff than go out to dinner - is liking your own cooking the same as laughing at your own jokes?

I'm a bit like that as well tbh, sometimes it seems like "what's the point?" (of going out that is...)

I think I'm pretty good at cooking, I have some staples which I cook all the time, although even my "staples" tend to change every few months, and I like to try and cook one new thing/recipe each week. My other half is abismal at cooking (he blames his mum  ) so we like to cook together once a week too, to learn something new :)

This weeks new adventure was a mexican feast :)

I'm not bad and really enjoy cooking. I feel I'm getting much better and see it as a constant learning process. I find it so satisfying to learn how to make something new and am not afraid to mess around with the recipe a bit to allow for what I've got in the house etc... In the last couple of years I've learnt to make some mean curries (thank you Madhur Jaffrey!) Could do with learning how to make more veggie stuff though.

I'm not bad - as someone else said, i can read therefore I can cook!
I am infamous for improvising though - the best was chicken curry with potatoes which contained neither chicken nor potatoes - so sometimes get the balance wrong.

I'd like to cook fish better; Morrisons (I know, hangs head) have started stocking dabs which I've tried a couple of times. Pure guesswork on how long to cook 'em for.

Fantastically good :D .....maybe because i`ve spent the last ten years working in very good restaurant kitchens....
Iv`e even become very good at the kosher thing as i`ve spent the last three years working for a Jewish company here in old London town.... ;)

I'm not bad. I tend to stick to what i know but i've started to work on widening my recipie selection.

My main strength is italian food. Working on chinese.

Dabs are fucking beautiful! Try and pick the largest that you can get your hands on. They have lovely, sweet flesh and need only simple, short cooking.

I tend to de-head and fin them, cover with seasoned flour and shallow fry for a few minutes each side. You can do a bit of parsley sauce or similar if you wish. Serve with peas and new potatoes.

I'm a lousy cook. I can bake, but not cook. My scones are to die for and my lasagnas are to die for litteraly.

I have a tendency to over cook processed food to the point of cremation to make sure it's safe to eat. (I know this is not real cooking)

I make a mean sandwich though :D

i'm rubbish - I just do those M&S cook! things and hide the packaging in the bin if people come round ...
Me too. I hate cooking and I'm crap at it. And I resent the time it takes which I could be using so much more usefully to do stuff like... post crap on here! :D

I'd say I used to be a better cook than I am now, if that makes any sense. I mean I can cook and I know the basics of how to make bread, sauces, different cuisines and suchlike, but if I'm honest I rarely put much of it into practice any more, and we eat a lot of pasta with either tomatoey or creamy sauces, which I can make with my eyes closed and one hand tied behind my back. :o

It used to be when people came over to eat, I'd pull out all the stops and produce something fantastic, but these days there are kids running around everywhere and I'm more likely to bung together a bucket of chili or a big lasagne. Good lasagne or chili, though. :p
