Best way to cook a sunny side up egg is to have a small frying pan with a lid.
Deffo. Spooning hot oil over the top helps also. Never happens in yer average greasy spoon though. :(

The alternative Kanda is that you fry it in a enough oil so that with a tablespoon you can spoon the hot oil over the yolk around ten or so times. that will slightly cook the top and the yolk without having to flip it. :) :p :D

My mother used to do that - everyone I have lived with since has looked at me like I'm murdering their children when I've done that. It's cooks the eggs perfectly! I'm going to start doing that again....

I prefer to use as little oil as possible. The heat below the lid cooks it really well without the need for much oil at all.

Happens in mine, the eggs are 'shallow' fried in an inch of oil.... mmmm. grease.

Question is though....really high heat so that you get that crispy bottom or lower heat and no crispy bottom? eh??

No crispy bottom for me.

People do think it's odd till they see the results :)

Crispy! High heat and split second timing required. For over easy and crispy, you need to flip it a little earlier (in relation to how much the white on top has cooked) and then leave it flipped for a tad longer in order to prevent yolk solidification ruining it all.

don't y'all hate it when you flip the egg and the yolk breaks? :D

Annoying, I give that one to my girlfriend, who (strangely) prefers hard yolks. She overcooks scrambled eggs too.. eurrrgh

I have a pan like this for poaching, but i wish i could do it without, as the pan makes it seem a bit fast-foodish.

You don't need that gizmo. Just a frying pan with an inch of boiling water. Crack the egg straight in, scoop out with a slotted spoon. No probs.

YES!!!

The absolute worst though is when you heat up your frying pan, crack the egger in and the bloody yolk breaks there and then grrrrr...

The dog gets the rejects, unless there is an egg shortage or I'm particularly hungry. :D

British soldiers refer to a fried egg sandwich as an "egg banjo" this is due to the act carried out when the yolk bursts from the bottom of the sandwich. The left arm (holding the sandwich) goes out similar to holding a Banjo Neck. The right hand meanwhile rubs off the spilt yolk from your clothing (similar to strumming a Banjo) Hence the term "Egg Banjo"

:D

have you ever gotten a raw egg where the yolk had a blood clot inside it? I've seen it 3 or 4 times.

Used to work at an egg packing plant and the most wierd thing I saw there was an egg completely filled with blood, no yolk, no white just blood

ps if its just a small amount of blood and it was from a non-battery source it was probably a fertilised egg and the blood was the very small foetus.
