How do you fit in a cup of tea/coffee in the morning?

Why? I don't reboil water that's been sitting in the kettle cooling for a while, just when I've been briefly distracted while tea making and missed the actual second the kettle boils.

I dunno - I just know you shouldn't - my mum or someone else said you shouldn't. I dunno. I dunno.

Its because it un-dissolves more oxygen from the water. Apparently water with a higher oxygen content extracts more flavour from the tea.

It also, erm, boils the water more (duhh). More water escapes as steam, making the dissolved solids (like calcium and whatever else) become more concentrated.

It probably makes fuck all difference to the taste unless you are constantly reboiling the same water over and over again many times.

I make a cup as soon as I get out of the shower, and drink it whilst I am doing my hair and make up. Or if I have time, do a bit of surfing on the internet whilst drinking it!

I get out of bed, have a wee, go downstairs (waking children up on my way), let dog out of his bed, open dining room curtains, put kettle on, let dog out for a wee, wake teenager, make coffee no. 1, drink that with a cigarette outside, make little ones breakfast, put his clothes out, go for a shower, get dressed, make 2nd coffee which I drink while making lunch boxes, drying my hair, faffing round the house, make one more coffee which usually doesn't get drunk till I get back from taking boy to school.

I don't function till I've had my 3 cups of coffee in the mornings. :o

It is one of the few advantages of the layout of my long thin Edwardian flat that the bathroom is six feet from the kitchen.

So the morning routine goes:
  • Put on kettle
  • Shower and shave
  • Make coffee/fill teapot (depending on company)
  • Dress
  • Breakfast, including cooled down coffee/properly brewed tea.

get up and straight away put kettle on with just enough for one cup, put bag and sugar in, go to the "bathroom" about 3 feet away, come back just as kettle is finishing boiling and chuck it straight in. go start getting bag ready for work and looking at weather for cycling/bus. fish bag out and drink as it's strong and cooled down.
if i'm knackered or intending to be late i'll put a chai on the brew as i have a quick shower then have it as soon as i get out, lush.

then get into work and make a big round

I think this might depend on what you do when you get to work. When I worked in an office I would literally get up, get on bike, go. When I got to work I'd shower, have tea, maybe porridge at my desk etc. It helped that the first 3 hours of the morning my job was to read the newspapers and translate articles of interest.... meaning that I got to drink tea, eat porridge and read the newspapers until about 11am.. :D

Now, with my current job, I often find it difficult to find the time to go to the toilet - never mind have tea, eat etc. Now, pretty much every day, I arrive and don't eat, drink or use the bathroom(because I've not had time to drink/eat) until 3:30pm. So I get up a bit earlier and have a cup of tea at home.

I feel awake as soon as I'm awake - that's why it's called awake :p

My first cup of tea is drunk when Im still asleep then.

Wake, stumble to loo frequently with eyes still shut/half shut, stumble to kitchen, put water in kettle & push button to boil. Feed fish, turn on fishtank light, feed cat, not necessarily in that order (Cat can be very loud). Turn on a light somewhere. (yes, in the winter everything's been done in the dark until now, or a light in another room is on - BRIGHT LIGHT BRIGHT LIGHT!! Turn on TV (news & weather). Pour water in mug, stand looking at mug trying to focus, get bored/impatient, add milk, remove teabag, sit, drink tea taking about 20 minutes to do so. Thoroughly enjoyable. Eyes usually start opening around now - I have been known not to be able to see ceefax weather first thing though, cos I simply can't open my eyes/focus.

Eyes now open, get washed & dressed, prepare & administer dog drugs, walk dog, feed dog, leave for work.

Lunch is prepared randomly in there somewhere depending if I can open my eyes or not, or else its bought at lunchtime.

Arrive at work, kettle on. First thing. Often before arriving at desk. :D

One or two more cups during the morning, and thats my lot for the rest of the day as a rule.

I will get up earlier to fit in tea. I cannot and will not function without tea in the morning.

get up, get kids up, stagger downstairs, put kettle on, feed cat, pour tea, make kids their morning drink, put coal on fire, put milk in tea, get youngest into a clean nappy and get him dressed while it's cooling down, drink tea whilst exhorting eldest to dress herself. Possibly have time to sit while drinking it but usually take it into kitchen and drink it at same time as creating sprogs' breakfast. I literally cannot get out of the door if I don't have my cup of tea.

I get up, get my son up, give the small girl her breakfast (she pretty much just wakes up/gets up whenever anyone else does so doesn't need any prompting) and then if the small boy's having a packed lunch do a tea at the same time and drink it while I'm sorting that out and making sure he remembers to get dressed  otherwise I jump in the bath first....shouting regularly 'Can you start getting dressed!' 'Are you getting dressed yet?' 'Have you finished getting dressed?' :D ....then make a cup of tea afterwards.

i could do with you moving in here:D

It's a shame that you don't have time to relax and enjoy the part of your life between waking up and going to work :( I feel sorry for you, I really do.

What a bizarre thing to feel sorry about. I like getting up and doing stuff immediately - at the weekends I'm usually down the farmer's market within half an hour of waking. You don't have to sit still to relax.
