How do you fit in a cup of tea/coffee in the morning?

So?
I think making tea is great to keep a happy atmosphere.

Yeah, but you work with people you like and respect, and who like and respect you. I on the other hand am a miserable world-hating bastard who is rightly shunned by my fellow office slaves, so making tea for them is a pain in the arse. Also, if I do drink tea at work I only ever have one cup in the morning, so if I make one for everyone else they never have to reciprocate.

I like to get up with at least an hour and a half to go before I have to leave the house, two hours is preferable.

I go to the loo, amble downstairs, put the coffee machine on to warm (yes, this way I even have time for 'proper' coffee), have my Yakult, then eat my breakfast while browsing teh interwebs, then go and make a nice double espresso, drink it while browsing teh internets. By the time I've finished it I'm ready for the loo again, so back upstairs. Then I wash/shower, get dressed, do my hair, then back downstairs. If I've time I'll check my emails again, but more often than not I've no time left so I start dashing like a fool to switch of the computer, feed the cat, get my bus money out, make sure I've got everything I need for the day (which means I usually have to pack 2 bags to take with me - mainly because I carry too much crap), then check, double check, and recheck all the plugs are off and doors are locked, then I leave.

Plenty of time for coffee in the midst of all of that :)

Some people haven't been taking their turns so I think I'll be making solo coffee's for a bit. They're 'too busy' Not busy enough to stop them making their lunch though ey?

Not too busy to drink the coffee either I'll venture. Lazy fucks.

What are those little plastic pegs that you balance golf balls on called? etc etc

I used to have a colleague who would fall for that every. single. time. I didn't even have to vary it, the word "tee" would fall out of her mouth before she'd have a chance to think. Bless.

I purposely get up at stupid o'clock (ie 5am) just so I can have about 45 minutes of chilling time with my coffee before I really have to get my arse in gear. I hate having to run around and I need my coffee first thing!

I get up about an hour and a half before work, walk the dogs, make me brekkie.....chill and read my e-mails.

I cant just get up and run around, I need to be eased into it slowly.

I never have a shower in the morning either - always in the evening, cos my wife can't bear the smell of the fish when I come in. If I'm quick, I can be washed and smelling soapy and still faintly fishy when she comes in.

I only leave about 15 minutes between waking up and leaving the house, so no time for tea making at home. I start work at 7am and it's only a 5 minute walk away, so I just eat breakfast and have my cuppa there. Best thing about it is that I save on buying cereal and orange juice.

thanks to my working hours of 9.30-5.30 i don't have to leave til 9.00am, so plenty of time for tea, when i had to get in by 9, i still had plenty of time - tbh, 9.30 is a lot easier for me as i used to get in about 9.15 anyway:o first day of new clocking in time, i got there at 9.50:cool:

i used to just rush rush rush around in the mornings but i've got into the habit of waking very early so now i have two and a half hours before i need to leave the house in the morning. that leaves lots of time for tea and dithering.
when i wake up i drink a herbal something or other first thing then make breakfast, wash and organise self and child, then make tea. i usually drink the tea while i am doing my make up.

i get up, go to toilet, have a shower or do some washing up if it needs doing (this will only ever be on a morning where i don't need a shower, i organise myself fairly well, feed the cats, put the kettle on, get dressed, turn the computer on, kettle boils, make sure teenager is awake, and then bring mine and the missus's cuppa into our bedroom, wake the missus up, and then sit down in front of the computer to enjoy my brew. and then when that's been drunk, go to work.

The night before I put teabag in mug, with sugar and make sure there's the minimum amount of water in kettle.

Then, first thing in morning get up and put kettle on go back upstairs to bathroom, wash (during which kettle switches off and water is cooling), get dressed go downstairs make tea. I have time to eat a banana drink orange juice and a benecol, or actimel, then tea is cool enough to drink pretty much straight down.

Even when I never had time for the banana (my job has changed so get more time in the morning now) the tea would always, just, be cool enough to drink pretty much straight down. The trick is to get the kettle boiled asap after waking up giving maximum time for the water to cool down. Having least amount of water in kettle possible helps to get it boiled quick.

Ah, yes, theres that too... did I mention I start at 10:30am? :D (I never get there before 10:40, either. :o )

An intriguing solution to the breakfast beverage conundrum, but one that has a major flaw: water needs to be absolutely boiling and fresh out of the kettle to make a decent cup of tea.

I get up at 6 - 6.30, and leave for work at 8.50, so plenty of time for bathing, knitting, websurfing, televiewing, cat feeding, washing machining, and consuming food and drink. :)

When I start work at 07.10 I don't have a cup of tea before I leave the house as there is no time. I could brew it before I have my shower but I like to enjoy a cup of tea not slurp it down. My work is a 10 minute drive away and almost everyone is passionate about tea drinking so I know I will be drinking a lovely as soon as I get to work. These days I rarely drink tea at home due to consuming so much at work. I used to have porridge at 06.30 but now I just have a bowl of cereal about 07.45 at work which suits me better.

Im also a get up, get showered and dressed and out the door person. I think I would fall back to sleep if I had time to ponder or watch the TV. I do put on the radio though.

Seriously. Almost everyone seems to make themselves a cup of tea or coffee in the morning before they leave for work. But when do you drink it? Like, I could put the kettle on, go and get dressed and so on, then come back and the tea’s ready… but then I’m ready to leave. What do you do? Just have a bit of a sit for 5 minutes and drink the tea? I haven’t got time to be sitting around drinking tea for no reason! And I’m certainly not getting up 5 minutes earlier so I can drink tea.

It's a shame that you don't have time to relax and enjoy the part of your life between waking up and going to work :( I feel sorry for you, I really do.

I wake up 90 minutes before I'm supposed to leave the house, partly because I refuse to rush to get to work. It's my life, not my boss's. Yet even with an hour and a half to get ready, dressed, and eat breakfast, I still feel like I don't have enough time, and I often end up leaving the house 20 minutes later than I'm supposed to (partly because I can't resist going on the internet for a bit :D). That's just the way it is I suppose, I'd have to go to bed earlier and wake up earlier if I wanted more time.

We're talking a matter of 2-3 mins between kettle goes off and pouring  I wash and dress....quickly. Water is still hot enough for me to enjoy my cuppa, but not too hot I have to wait to drink it.

Whereas I wash and dress slowly, especially in the mornings, and am a bit fanatical about getting the water into the mug the very second the kettle's boiled.

But we're opening up the "which tea-making method produces the best results?" can of worms here, so I'll stop :)

I am sure you enjoy your tea, and I am not suggesting that you are doing it wrong or anything, so dont take it that way.

But within 2-3 minutes the water will have cooled significantly.

edit: just read May's post. oops

if i am in a rush in the morning.i make a coffee and then take it to the bathroom to drink it there and whilst i get ready.

otherwise first tea or coffee at or on the way to work. sometimes for early early shifts i would use a thermos mug and make a nice hot coffee with milk and drink it on the way to work ie tube. but now i lost my thermos mug and i only work late shifts.
