How do you encourage fatties to exercise?

My cat is well weapon

But alas he is a big fat fuck who sleeps about twenty hours a day, dribbles for three hours, and eats for the remaining hour. As such he has become a fat furry house worm. He gets plenty of comments about his size and his looks (he is very handsome!) but he is way too fat. He's nearly 15 so is pretty much sedentary and if I cut the amount of scran he gets any more he'll be starving. Currently he gets one pouch of cat food a day and that's it.

My plan is to get the little fat bastard to move around a bit more but he's just not interested. He's seen it all before. Balls of wool, wind up mice etc. he jusgt looks at them. He does have a manic half hour about one a month where he tries to run up and down the stairs.

My fat cat :(

Ideas?

Please stick to the point in hand, mrs madzone. If you have nothing to say about my well weapon (but obese) cat then please keep yourself off my thread.

Good day :)

That's La Madzone to you, sonny.

What about tieing the cat to the back of your bike?

Murphy does not care for your attitude quite frankly, mrs madzone

I used to chase my fat cat round the house. Or you can lock them outside. That works

If I put him outside he just goes to sleep in the coal bunker :D

Now you're just showing off :D

Next time you take him out in the car or on the bus make him walk home the last half mile

Chase him? fuck off, he does not move! That's the thing, he won't even move for the hoover. You have to pick the fat bastard up.

Catlesh, even if he hates and attacks the thing while your trying to led him about at least he's doing something energetic.

As a side note if you do get a catlesh I'm sure we'd all appreciate photos of you leading your fat cat about the place like the cock of the walk. :D

Murphy sounds similar in the activity stakes to my Rachel. Even if I reduce her food, she reduces her activity to account for the reduced calories.

He looks absolutely gorgeous.

Like a fat version of my Shelley (who's tiny and skinny).

Is he easily frightened? You could always try chasing him around the house.

Fireworks! Cats hate fireworks, too...

Same problem with mine - similar age, overweight, inactive. Sleeps if you leave her indoors, sleeps if you let her out. Nervous disposition so whilst chasing/taunting might provoke a bit of activity it does nothing for her mental health.

Shelley has such a nervous disposition that he's frightened of everything (except me).

So he tends to get plenty of exercise being chased about, but he's so daft that he's forgotten it after about 15 minutes :D

What would he do if you squirted water at him?
Or crept up behind him and shouted boo!

Or... feed him biscuits instead of wet food but don't put them in his bowl. Make him work to get them. Make him watch as you throw them to different corners of the room. My cats go mental when I do this and dart towards the biscuits at 100mph, pushing each other out the way :D

don't feed her...simple by the time she gets thin enough to start hunting you can start feeding her again....cruel o be kind and all that

If I put him on a leash he's just lie there. This is how stockle he is, he had fleas really bad a few weeks ago after somehow catching a rabbit. The vet said we'd need to bath him with specalist shampoo. So that is exactly what I did. I took him in the shower with me and he just fucking sat as I washed him. I then got out of the shower, he followed. I towel dried him and he then took himself infront of the fire where he went to sleep.

At the moment he is asleep on my lap as I type this. He used to be hyper when he was younger :(

He has to be fed I am not abusing the poor fucker.

make him follow his food, hold the bowl, move it, make him follow it, walk for a few miles a day:)

I am going to ask on a cat forum with some proper totty, you lot are shit.

You're right though, he is old and he is happy. So what if he's fat. Simply get a bit concearned he is too fat and it has having an impact on his general health and well being, I love him to bits so I just want him to be well. He could lose a couple of pounds and be better for it however.
