How do you define the part of London that you live in?

I live in Stockwell. And I mean *in* Stockwell, not "near Stockwell tube".

Stockwell tube is on the outskirts of Stockwell, I live in the very heart of Stockwell.

I live on the other side of the tube station, I always thought I lived in Stockwell..."between stockwell tube and the wandsworth road" is a bit of a mouthful :(

So you're from the wrong side of the tracks? :hmm:

I've seen your sort, all shifty looking, troublesome odour, scared of cats, wrong'uns the lot.

You get a much more refined crowd in Stockwell proper. Better breeding, proper manners, etc.

Sarf East
see that's tooo vague? What if they live sarf east too?

I had this conversation before:

"where do you live?"
"Hackney"
"Which part of HAckney?"
"Clapton."
"Which part of Clapton?"
"The pond?"
"Where by the Pond?"
"Nr the park on Fletching Road"

The person lived on the road behind me...

You live wherever Rollem tells you, you live.

Someone recently told me he lived in Paxton Village. This apparently is the area between South Croxted Road, West Norwood and Gipsy Road. It certainly wasn't called that when I lived there fifteen years ago.

He was a bit taken aback by my hoots of derision.

:D It should be called no-man's land. Could it be further from a train station?!

Where I live now is easy. Holloway, nags head or 10 minutes from arsenals ground.

bloody estate agents.

There is no such place as Oval - The cricket ground is called The Oval and the tube station is called Oval to reflect its proximity to this cricket ground. The area where it is located is part of Kennington.

Similarly there is not a location called "Clapham North" - merely a tube station which is located at the Stockwell end of Clapham. And surely in Landor Road you would find it very hard to say you were located in anything other than Stockwell?

Where I live is also a funny one - although Knatchbull Road is in SE5 which to me means Camberwell Lambeth refers to us as North Brixton or similar because Camberwell is in Southwark. However being one road from the Lambeth/Southwark border I always say that we are Camberwell and proud! However I know people that would refer to themselves as living in Kennington or even Oval as they think it sounds posher (or something) but I guess everyone sees themselves in terms of their journey to work and regular journeys they make.

I live along Clapham Road between Oval and Stockwell. Or at least, that is exactly where I tell cab drivers I wish to be dropped; and since I always get home, I guess taxi drivers are familiar with a place called the Oval, whether or not it exists. Similarly, most people know the area around the Clapham North tube station as Clapham North.

I lived on Knatchbull road, at the Brixton end. Also lived at Oval, overlooking it before the stands were built up. :hmm:

There are all over us like a rash Marty...Lots of the old council stock has also been signed over to Housing associations as well.

hackney council doesn't directly manage any of the stock anymore - it created an ALMO a couple of years ago -

If you google Paxton Village London all you get related to this area is your post.:D

Oh, and a reference to a vet in West Norwood. Not many vets get an area named after them.:p
