How do you define the part of London that you live in?

Penge is a weird area frankly. I never even knew it existed until I went to University, when some dodgy pyscho/rocka/nonceabilly lass kept on insisting it was just round the corner from where I grew up (Brixton)

Actually it's not that far away, but I don't recall even passing through Penge until my early 20s, on detour through Crystal Palace. Very popular with lowlifes and lesser members of the criminal fraternity I hear - honest guv.

The whole Arsenal is being redeveloped and turned into flats - she's living in one but is insisting that it's a separate area called 'Royal Arsenal' rather than Woolwich! :D

AFAIK that's how it's being marketed, aimed at 'young professionals' and the like who don't want to admit to living in Woolwich! Probably a good investment, though, given that the Olympics and the DLR link will cause house prices in the area to shoot up in the next few years.

I just say I live in Charlton, FWIW, although I'm very close to Woolwich and I have been known to say 'I live in Woolwich' to the surprising number of people who don't know where Charlton is...

Is it the Brixton or Streatham End? Or nr the prison?

( am I making this too complex??)

:) Don't listen to him, he's Streatham. ;)

Brixton. Everyone knows Brixton. It's a proper place. :)

From now on I'm just going to say near Minnie. :)

Jerry Lee Lewis did have a very young wife but still never heard of that particular er youth cult.

Currently I say 'between Tulse Hill and West Dulwich, just off the south circular'

When I move I'll say "near Crystal Palace Park, the other end from Crystal Palace... oh, ok, fine. I live in Penge.'

when i used to live in West Dulwich people always used to say 'where?' or 'Lordship Lane?' and i'd say no!

but if i said about 5 mins on a bus from Brockwell Park they'd all nod sagely.

another person who insisted they lived in 'Royal Arsenal' (Woolwich):D

Because a Woolwich Areshole postcode does not add value to your flat.
I used to live in Streatham Village   No I could not find it listed on the A-Z as well.
But saying that before I moved to Hither Green I had never heard of it. Although had I heard it be described as the arse end of Lewisham I too would have nodded my head sagely..

Some places are no-mans lands - for example on yesterday's thread a pub was described as being in the 'Oval end of stockwell' or the ' Stockwell end of the Oval' .

I live between Clapham north and Stockwell tube an area which was formly known as Babilon ( those that still doesn't give people a clear answer if they don't know it was called Babilon) So I sometimes say off landor Road... except that doesn't work if they don't know where it is....

anyway, is your area easily defined or one of London's no-mans lands? And should we rename the no-man's land?

I used to live in Jefferys road. Is that the same no mans land? I just said I lived in Stockwell

Herne Hill.

Though I believe Estate agents would refer to it as "The prestigious North Dulwich Triangle".:D

It's clearly not where bluey and the hive live, though. So, i might refer to it as the posh bit of herne hill.;):p

I live near Union road so not that far away... and yes the same not quite Stockwell, not quite Clapham area...

I grew up down Slade Gardens area of Stockwell. or Stockwell Park area of Stockwell ( posh bit not estate). Or nr the Grovesnor bit of Stockwell
