How do you boil an egg?

If you find them undercooked and the white bit goopey put the egg(s) in the microwave. But only for about 10 seconds (two eggs). 5 secs if they are nearly cooked.

The microwave is very strong, be careful, 20 secs in the microwave and they will be hard hard.

I often do myself 3 eggs. Bang them straight into boiling water and fish them out bang on 3 mins.

If you take the top off the first one and it's a little underdone then just eat the other 2 in a couple of minutes.

If it's just right, then eat two of the eggs (you can let the third one go hard and put it the fridge).

:)

Or, they'll explode! :D

Personally I put the egg into a pan of cold water, as I can’t bare the possibility of them cracking from the temperature change.

Then don't keep your eggs in the fridge, they are not supposed to be stored there.

The clue is to look where things are stored in the supermarket or wherever.
Are tomatoes in the fridge - No. They perish quicker in the fridge. Etc etc etc.

Eggs last for bloody ages.

Three minutes in boiling water for some nice runny yolk action.

clever - i like this idea as it allows for freshness variables

I used to pop them in cold water then 3 mins when it boils but my Mum bought me an egg boiler.
Its actually good, you pierce the egg shell then add the water to measured amount for the desired softness.
Very repeatable so I get the eggs the way I like them.

This thread has answered my what's for tea problem.

it's surprisingly difficult to find really representative picures of egg and soldiers.:hmm:

Here's one I did earlier this month for a mag feature - any better?

(can't keep it up too long though - not published yet)

Place in cold water and bring to boil, turn off heat and leave for three minutes.

Incidentally, these were my boiled eggs;

Place a non fridged egg in boiling water for 1 minute. Remove from heat, put a lid on it. Leave for 5mins, firm white runny yolk.

I don't keep my eggs in the fridge. That would just be silly. I've still had the odd egg crack when put straight into boiling water though. Maybe Im just unlucky.

I haz eggz!

I'm going to attempt boiled eggs for breakfast later.

I rarely cook eggs. I'm way too fussy about freshness. If I buy half a dozen eggs, if I haven't used them all within a couple of days, and I generally haven't, then I throw them away. And the waste annoys me. I eat more eggs if I'm living with someone and they're eating then as well.

The main thing is you dont boil your eggs like a colleague of mine

1. Put eggs on to boil
2. Go back to room and put internet on
3. Wonder what the funny smell, strange alarm sounds and firemen running around the place is all about :D

Hypothesis: Will my egg be perfect if boiled for three minutes?

Method: Bring kettle to boil. Turn on hob. When kettle boils fill small saucepan. Set timer for three minutes. Add two medium sized free range eggs to pan. Press timer start button. When alarm goes off, drain water and serve.

Result: The white wasn't quite solid enough for my liking, but they were edible.

Conclusion: Next time boil for 3'30".

I can't abide boiled or poached eggs. If they are fried or scrambled or made into an omelette though, they are pretty much my favourite food.

I have to keep my eggs in the fridge, it's the only place they are safe from the cats. In my experience, cats are hardwired to steal eggs, drop them from a height to break the shell and then eat them - much the same as they will instinctively hunt small creatures. They are natural nest-raiders as well as hunters and any eggs left out seem to be fair game.

i have some duck eggs and am now tempted to boil 5 of them for brekkie tomorrow, though i was going to scramble them. are the rules any different for duck eggs?

Sorry, I'm no use to you as I haven't even mastered regular chicken eggs. :o

But *five* eggs for breakfast!? Are they smaller than chicken eggs? I thought they were bigger?

That's what I was thinking too, they're also richer and fattier, at least that's what I've heard, so 5 would be a struggle I imagine. I've never gone beyond chicken eggs myself - those I had tried before I started keeping birds as pets - these days anything other than a chicken egg I find a repellent idea - I wouldn't eat a parrot egg, the line has to be drawn somewhere. :D :o

Don't boil the egg, watch the video of all those boychicks being thrown in a grinder and reconsider whether eggs are even worth it at all. Then feed it to a dog

sorry, six eggs, i thought i'd used one yesterday, but i forgot.
they're not especially big - what's wrong with having six?
i have six egg omelettes for weekend brunch quite a lot, but this time i'm gonna scramble or boil them

This thread has been no help at all. I completely fucked up my boiled egg this morning. I rinsed it under warm water to stop it cracking. put it straight into boiling water. Timed it 3 minutes, and got the egg out. The white was really not cooked enough so I tried microwaving it for 5 seconds and ended up with runny white and a solid yolk! Fucks sake.
