SO glad I can be the one to share the PROPER way to do this.

Cut your pomegranite in half, widthways.

Take a wooden spoon, and holding the half a pom, cut side over a bowl, smack the back of the wooden spoon sharply onto the shell of the pom.

Nothing might happen for two or five smacks, then you will get a few bejewelled raindrops of pom cells, JUST KEEP SMACKING...

Soon, you will get a full downpour of lovely transparent gems, pitter, patter, all into the thoughtfully positioned bowl.

Not only is this the quickest way to get the fuckers out, it is by far the most fun.

Remember who told you.

:)

you are the king of fairy diamonds ;)

...........and has anyone ever tried Kiwano (also called Horned Melon)?
They are a bit like a pomegranate inside with lots of little seeds surrounded by juicy bits.

Sorry, my computer skills don't run to knowing how to cut and paste a photo :D

Are those things kind of soft and squashy?

If so, you may have just solved one of the enduring mysteries of our times.

I'm doing it all wrong aren't I?

Yes - you really want to dress in flowing silks and recline on a sumptuous divan where attractive acolytes pop individual kernels into your slightly pouting lips.

The outside is quite hard but when you cut it open the inside is soft and full of little juicy seeds which are in sections separated by a sort of membrane and you can scoop each one out - sorry, probably not a very good description!

I saw them in the local shop which has a very good selection of the more unusual fruits at the end of last year and bought one to try (was 99p). Had never seen one before.

Thanks to whoever posted the photo!

Right, now I am going to buy the very next pomegranate I see, just to try out the Wookey Wooden Spoon Method.

Got some Pomegranate seeds reduced in the #haggle shelf the other day.

Any ideas? Was thinking of a feta/pomegranate seed salad :hmm:

Hope they're not infested like ones we bought as kids from the local greengrocers (dead exotic back in those days).

Got it home and cut into it vertically - it erupted with silverfish, who had obviously been having a party inside the thing. :hmm:

When I was a kid living in rural parts we had a council house with a fucking massive garden - when we moved in there were mature apple and plum trees, and greengage bushes. All without the benefit of pesticides and other chemicals of course. If you ever hand me a plum to eat, do not be surprised if I request a knife, cut it into a few segments, and then inspect it carefully before enjoying it :D
