How can I find out who owns 'my' domain name?

just out of interest i still own the footballers domain name... get a letter every year demanding its handed over... they get told to go fuck themselves...nothing happens and the guy who uses it carries on as normal. it gets about 10 hits a month that are for it and a few hundred that are redirected to the footballers own domains...

The advice you received in your 2007 post was correct BTW... as you've probably realised by now.

Don't you just hate it when you read through a thread only to find that it is years old, a zombie thread and you don't remember it? I would blame pogofish for this but the revival was caused by a very new member who probably has not heard of pogofish. I am a bit mystified as to how they stumbled across such an ancient thread though.

Or call it something like TheRealAnnONemus or ONemusPorkScratchings or whatever type of business you're going into?

Incidentally I just searched on WhoisXY.com for my domain name and it comes up as my web hosting company. Does that mean that my details are kept off the main register of these things?
Probably, a lot of domain registration companies push these whois guard private registration services now where they put their details down and act as a proxy passing on any mail. They're either using it as a 'value added' service or will add a couple of quid onto your renewal fee to cover it. It costs them virtually nothing to run.

I'm pretty sceptical of them tbh as there is a slight potential for a land grab if the domain used for the service gets hacked, lapses or otherwise falls into the wrong hands.
