how can a shit-dump be considered cool?

Yes I've been assaulted 3-4 times in Brixton (out of perhaps only 6-7 times visiting the area).
Was this by random people or had you talked to them first? I mean if these are random then fair enough you obviously have "mug me" written on your back, what can I say take that sign off. duh. However if these are people you've talked to then I don't see how I could blame them, I mean I'd assault you if you are even one tenth as annoying in real life as you being here.

Everyone gets everything they deserve.

"very black" - oh you do crack me up, back pedalling piece of shit.

You see, I walk all around Brixton at all times of the day and the night and I've yet to encounter a 60% smack-in-the-face rate.
It does add up though doesn't it? He wanders around talking about "very black" people, how edgy it is in Brixton, the terrible gentrification, how great his digital TV card is. Who wouldn't smack him?

Of course I realise that I must have had bad luck.

And I didnt get mugged in Brixton. Just threatened and yelled at, people following me etc etc.

I have only been mugged ONCE in London. (islington, as you know)

Still, it must be clear to everyone that Brixton is an area with a very nervous atmosphere.

Like I wrote, I walk a lot in London during the nights (beleive me - A LOT) and I surprisingly rarely feel unsafe.

I realise that what you have heard and read about an area will effect how safe you feel there.

so your earlier claim to have been ASSAULTED 3-4 times in Brixton was a lie then?

I've never felt a 'nervous atmosphere' in Brixton and I'm usually hanging about there in the middle of the night on my own, just a poor single gal. The only time I sense a nervous atmosphere is when I've created it by myself by getting nervous about somebody or something. Why, pray tell do you walk about in London at night? I hate being on my own in London at night (I am every night but it's not my choice and I hate it).

Do you look as much of a cunt as you seem?

What I want to know is, does being hurt more/become more memorable if you are assaulted/shouted at or mugged by someone 'very black' as opposed to 'black' or 'brown' or 'light skinned black ' or 'olive skinned' or 'white'...............Or is it that nuttys a bit...nutty?

Bad idea to come to a fancy dress party in Brixton dressed as a KKK member then nuttys.. :D

Ah. So you count being shouted at as being "assaulted" then?

My, what a sensitive little bunny wabbit you must be!

Don't ever go to a football match. You'd have a heart attack.

"It's like how much blacker could [these muggers] get? and the answer is none, none more black"

Is there any correlation between the identity of these individuals and, say, the identity of individuals who you've just spoken to? I see a pattern emerging....

Perhaps you should stop running through ideas for threads out loud and in public.

brixton is meh

hackney is way underground

No, you've got it wrong; Hackney doesn't even have the underground yet, but Brixton has been on the underground since 1971.

Or am I missing the point?

Generally if you act like a victim you'll be treated like one.
Me, I've lived in or within a couple of miles of Brixton most of my life, and I've never been "assaulted". in the way you describe, in fact just about all the hassle I've ever had (except for one incident with a Gujerati) has been with people of the same skin-colour as me. This may be due to the fact that I'm a mean-looking bastard with a face that only a mother could love, but it's also, I'm sure, due to the fact that I project an aura that says "I'll be more trouble to you than I'm worth".

Of course, because whilst getiing abused, assaulted, mugged etc the shade of your assailent's skin is oh so bloody important. It really does make a difference, honest..... ;)

I used to live in Cambridge, and it was pretty scary at night time. As well as a multiple rapist who was raping women randomly across the city, I was actually mugged one evening by a couple of yoofs on a stolen motorbike, who were after my handbag.

Over a period of two years, my handbag was stolen from the back of a pushchair in a charity shop (okay, not an assault, but it really pissed me off at the time, because I had just cashed my benefit book (I was on the dole, like)), my washing was stolen from my line, my car tyres stabbed, graffiti daubed over the walls of my flat, and I had two bikes stolen, one from outside my flat, when the thieves actually took it apart whilst I slept.

However, I love the place, and none of it made it less gentile or cool.

I now live in Sarf London, and honestly feel safer here than I ever did in a house on my own in Cambridge.

So, nyer.

Can't actually remember the point I was trying to make, but will post this anyway, because I feel like it!

brixton ... I am seriously intrested to know how the hell it can be considered a "cool" place to live?
I suppose there is a kind of paradox...

Inner cities all around the world - including Brixton - attract a lot of young, creative and alternative people. They often have a diverse population - lots of nationalities and cultures all mixed up together - and also have entertainment, arts, shopping and so forth.

On the other hand they often also have higher levels of crime, poverty, ill health, drug addiction and so forth.

What someone considers a "cool" place to live depends on what they are looking for in a place and the kinds of things they like...

...if you are a young person, into clubbing, alternative lifestyles and politics, squatting, recreational drugs or whatever then you will probably prefer one type of neighbourhood, whereas if you have kids, are into horse riding, conservative politics and value a clean, safe and quiet neighbourhood above the numbers of nearby clubs and bars then you will probably prefer another type of place.

Of course Brixton has a BR and tube line so other people might simply live there because it is easy to get to where they work. Other people live there because they were born there or moved there to be near people they know, or maybe they simply found a flat they liked and decided to stay.

If there is anything unique about Brixton I'd say that it has a sense of freedom - both personal and legally speaking - along with an attitude of defiance and autonomy. I don't think you get judged as much in Brixton as elsewhere and it can feel like you are getting away from a sometimes oppressive and uniform majority culture.

Maybe other people have their own view of what the place is like for them. I do think there is a kind of paradox however in that while Lambeth is on the face of it financially poor, it is also culturally rich but it is sometimes hard to figure out if and how these two things are linked together - they are not always in other places.

Teejay: good post, I agree and can't really add to it. Brixton is a place of contrasts, love it or hate it, sometimes I feel both in one day.

I am having horrible Nathan Barley-esque images flashing through my head of the original poster. You have made yourself look like a total wanker. And a liar. And a racist. Free your mind...

Why on earth would you want to walk about in the dark on your own for recreational purposes? Is that fun? I think it's creepy.
