How budget airlines manage to be so cheap

Did BA workers win their strike a couple of years back? I can't remember now

The existing staff kept their old contracts but all the new hires since 2010 are on contracts that are more consistent with an airline that isn't run for the benefit and indulgence of the employees.

Apparently, Walsh's two big regrets are that he didn't finish off the old guard in the 2010 dispute and the purchase of the A380.

There were only 66 years between the Wright brothers making the first powered flight and man landing on the Moon.

The new staff they have taken on have a combined age of ten and are so indifferent to service that anyone who pays for their own tickets is flying with someone else.

BA's A380 and 787 - no, we won't have Wi-fi, there's no demand for it

The massively overpaid old stagers weren't exactly the last word in customer engagement. IAG/BA is very profitable now so WW is doing something right.

If you spend 9k to get to LA it would be nice to get a drink within an hour of take off, but the YTS lot are too busy having a natter and planning the fun they'll have when they get there to care, which is why NZ wins every time on that route for me.

And one notes that Walsh's attach on pay and conditions didn't apply to himself :hmm:

I once had an Anne Widdecombe lookalike flight attendant offer me chocolates that she had just picked off the floor after dropping them on an F class LHR-ORD BA flight.

BA's soft product isn't even remotely competitive with the ME3, SQ, CX or even TK. I don't think they even try on that front anymore. The strategy now is just to sell on the schedule and the network.
