I don't like the idea of only 10 entrants. I don't understand why that would be a good thing. But I think Challenge is better than Competition.
By the way, how do you do thumbnails, I don't know how.
Thanks!

[/noparse] <----this is the url of the small image (right click the image and select 'properties' in Internet Explorer, and copy and paste the URL. in Firefox & Opera you can just right click the picture and then select 'copy image address' or 'copy image URL'Well like I say, I'm not keen on the 10 entrants thing in case people who put more time and effort in don't get a chance to enter. I'm more keen on the tight deadline idea, and the 'co-operation not competition' idea. An assignment rather than a comp, where we critique eachother's entries.Fab, thanks for that, Herbsman!
Going back to the 10 entrants thing, I was thinking that some people might give up after a while if they miss getting in quick enough a couple of times and this would lose its momentum. What do you think?

instead of a monthly one with a theme, this could be weekly or fortnightly, and you have to shoot a specific item. A mundane everyday item. And you have to shoot it in an interesting way. Whoever wins chooses the item, and whoever chooses the item can enter the next comp but cannot win (just to give everone else a fair chance). What do yous reckon?

Nothing says you have to shoot an every day object, #44. Just continue with the monthly comp and ignore this one. Simple, really.
what a crock? why is it a crock?personally I see nothing wrong with the comp the way it is, shooting a fucking everyday object, what a crock.

shooting a mundane object forces the photographer to be creative with lighting, depth of field and composition.
any old shit photographer could take a completely boring, creativity-free picture of the most beautiful woman wearing a spectacular dress, and despite the lack of creative input it would still look good.
What, two desk lamps and the cheapest possible digital SLR? High end equipment LOL.Not everybody has the use of equipment that you have, the competition relies on the photograph, not the use of high end equipment.
It all smacks of elitism.
People on here own compacts that cost more than my camera. Sorry but why is it rubbish, Snadge? Go on explain it instead of just outright dismissing it.bollocks, utter rubbish.
. Not a good photo IMO, all the ones I took are shit, its just that this one looks the least shit out of all of them

At the end of the day no-ones forcing you to enter, so fuck off with your negativity and stop being a twat.

How the fuck, pray tell, would the fact that I use an SLR exclude anyone who doesn't have an SLR? Please explain this to me, because I really don't understand what the fuck you are going on about. If I use an SLR to take a picture to enter in the monthly photo comp, does that exclude everyone else who doesn't have an SLR too?so you would exclude anyone who hasn't got that level of equipment straight away.

Err. No. What I was trying to say was that an interesting/beautiful subject shot badly can make a more appealing photo than a boring subject shot with excellent technique. Is that really so hard to understand? What you are saying with your comparison is that two photographs taken of the same subject by different people would have the same appeal, in fact you have given a perfectly good reason why your "challenge" is full of fail. by your reckoning, a shit photographer's ( your words BTW ) entry of an everyday object ( in this case a beautiful woman in a lovely dress) would have the same impact as an accomplished photographers entry of the same subject.
Sorry but how do you know what type of photography I prefer to do?All this challenge seems to be about is taking studio type pictures which you prefer to do anyway.

There is already a competition as to who can come up with the most spectacular sunset/sunrise/water gushing over rocks type photos in the main comp.
I think this one will be far more challenging - plus I live in a city (as do many of you) and there ARE no spectacular views of rocks and beaches and palm trees where I live...![]()
Sigh.
Anyway.
This comp is a bit different. Go for it if you want to, don't if you don't. I am going to give it a go and see if I can rise to this challenge. But I will try to do it without whinging and moaning about it.
