Household items you keep forgetting to buy

I use them in curries and stir-fries, and sometimes just put them in with noodle soup. All that comprises about 80% of what I eat.

Can't think of any occasion when you'd want to use them - chicken and beef, yeah, but ham or lamb?
Anyway, they're easy to get hold of.

Do you never make soup?? I use ham stock cubes quite a bit.

I try not not run out of things. It's a bit of a phobia :o I discovered I'd run out of rice the other week so had to change what we were having for tea but I remembered to get some on Tuesday.

What market? Where....I never knew they existed. How like using block tamarind are they taste-wise?

Shepherds Bush market, but I'm sure they have them in Brixton too. I'm not sure actually about the difference between them and block tamarind though - maybe I should experiment. Usually I either buy actual tamarinds or the stock cubes.

Why? What happens if you use other flavours?
A v boring & tiresome food-triggered migraine. Nothing fatal (yet), but something has to be food of the gods to be worth it. Gets worse with repeated/increased exposure, so even trace amounts of the trigger need to be avoided like the plague.

Why ham stock? Turkey mince and pork mince are overwhelmed if you use beef stock - and bovril cubes are a bit too salty at the best of times. Tend to avoid red meat (except venison) anyway since finding by trial & error that it was partly to blame for ViolentPanda's badly swollen fingers & joints.

Forgot to say - bad enough for me, worse for anyone around. Part way through a migraine attack I get psychotic and violent if unable to be somewhere quiet & dark and stay there undisturbed. 9/10 people who've seen me like that hope it never happens again while they're around.:o

For lentil soup if you don't have bacon or ham in the house. I wish I had your magical shopping powers, OU.

In the 15 or so years I've lived in london they never used to stock them in Tesco despite me looking regularly. I've never seen them elsewhere and in Tesco only fairly recently. Unfortunately I only go to Tesco a few times a year now. I used to buy a few packs when I was up in Scotland or get them sent down.

At least I'm good at finding haggis. :)

Do you know what a pineapple cup is? :hmm:

Block tamarind is just tamarind squashed into a block. You get a bit off and put it in boiling water and squish it with your hands, then strain it.

I've seen it around, but I've never got around to buying anyway. I'll add that to the list as well.

The cubes are pretty convenient though.

BRIXTONIANS: you can buy tamarind stock cubes in that supermarket where the entrace is a fruit and veg stall. Where have you all been?

Oh god you poor thing :( That must mean you can't really eat out (((Greebo)))

I don't buy it :hmm:

It's a Scottish delicacy APPARENTLY. I'm being presented with one tomorrow.

Well there you go. I've never had one, that I recall. From what part of Scotland is the presenter? Perhaps it is a very local thing.

Ayr. I wanted milk ice cream or something deep fried, but that's too impractical.

I'm going to ask geminisnake.

Obviously scoring is for the things he's decided he doesn't need any more.

It's hard to imagine what material difference there can be to his life between 'bought it now thanks'' and ''no longer intend on buying''

I wonder what coconut milk did to offend?

:(

Why the boxes? Why not just score things out?

Actually, I used to just write a straight list on the cards, but I found that putting a line through things that I had bought made them _more_ prominent, rather than less, so I kept having to rewrite my index cards so that I could easily see what I needed to get. The empty box is more visible than the crossed-out one.

I now reserve crossing-out for things that I have decided that I do not want to get. For instance, I crossed out "coconut milk" because I realised that actually I had two blocks of coconut in the cupboard anyway and I didn't want a tin of the stuff.

But surely that would make coconut milk more prominent? :hmm:

It's the only thing from the list I remember...
