Hotwater bottles...do you use one ?

I love hot water bottles.

My feet are always really cold! Occasionally I put them on my boyfreinds bach when he's nice and warm.

He fucking hates it!

Errr...quite a lot. Clothes, hats, scarves keep you warm and you wouldn't eat them. And imagine squizzing a baked potato in your bed in the middle of the night? Euuugh!
I would eat clothes if it was practical to make clothes out of food. I actually did use baked potatoes as a hot water bottle when I went camping, it was quite practical. They didn't get squashed.

I love my hot water bottle. I don't even have to hold him. I can slot him over my wrist and just snuggle up :)

I use one when my kidney pain is bad, and when I'm cold.

Mine is an old english sheep dog one from M&S, a 30th birthday present.

I have 2 - New York skyline by night, and skull and crossbones. Essential in a campervan in winter.

Ooh where did you get the skull and crossbones one moose?

Mine is baby pink and furry - yuk. Christmas present from my mum. That particular kind of baby pink hurts my brain.

I wish I had one right now though, I'm cold :(

It's very easy to make your own microwaveable hot-thingy:)

Sow a little tube (a small towel or tea towel will do) leaving one end open. Fill it with rice and sow up the last bit. Only fill it about 3/5 - it needs to be floppy enough to fit snuggly around your neck.

The cheapest sort of rice will do. If you fill it with pudding rice, it will smell a bit like rice pudding when you heat it.

Heat it in the microwave on a high heat for 2-3 minutes.

Very cheep, very good:)

I have just filled up my purple fur covered bottle and put it my bed to warm it up for me....got me thinking that not many folk use them.....who on here does ?

Hey! Shit! Ofcourse I should get one of them! Why didn't I think of that before?

Life's little comforts

Adds hot water bottle to shopping list

I was in stitches watching a geezer who didnt know how to make a hot water bottle himself cos he was so used to mummy making it for him,,, he tries to make one... first spills hot water on his hand then leaves a massive air bubble in there and wonders the next day why the cap is stuck and will not unscrew... duhhhh

I have a wheat bag for home use, and for festivals I have two mini hot water bottles which keep me snuggly warm in my tent. I also have a very well trained boyfriend who will make up my hot water bottles in advance of me going to bed at a festival :)

I've just dug lavender wheat bag out but have forgotten how long you should microwave it for. Don't want it exploding or anything. Can anyone tell me please?

Can't even remember where I bought it so can't go on to website and look

Yes, it lives in a boobah case that my mum bought me for Christmas a few years ago. She clearly still thinks that I'm 5, not 28.

It's also quite creepy.

Don't have one, have never been that cold in bed since i was a small child............

Oh god I love my hot water bottle. I sit cuddling it when I'm not feeling well or put it on my back for period pains, or take two to bed when it's reeeaaaally cold.

Seconded!
I think I'd save my hot water bottle from a fire! :o

I love a hot water bottle. I have several:
American city at night
Andy Warhol Elvis
Jolly Roger knitted covered
Translucent purple with pink and green fish inside

Don't use them so much at home unless I'm ill, but use them loads in the campervan.

Edit: just noticed this is a massive bumpette!

Wondered how long before someone would notice :D

Anyway, I found my answer - 2-3 minutes

Sometimes in winter I visit a relative who lives in a house that is like a building site, no central heating for example .. I usually get given a hot water bottle to warm the bed and it is gggggrrrrrreeeeaaaatttt!

Sometimes for lower back pain. Not for other uses though, if it's chilly in the bedroom I just pop a cat or two under the duvet half an hour before I go to bed :D

i have one on my lap as i type this  and couldn't live without them in my life. My flat is freezing and I'd much rather have a nice hotwater bottle on my lap than pay loads for central heating bills. I've got one of those cuddly toy hot water bottle covers for my main hot water bottle, and sevral other little ones i have when it's realy cold to warm my feet.
hmmm i realise this makes me sound incredibely sad. But i really dont care. I love my hot water bottles!

This. Even as a kid I have memories of kicking it to the bottom of the bed once I'd warmed up.

I've slept in some bloody cold beds, but after the initial shock you soon warm up. If it really is too cold, I'd rather wear a t-shirt, socks or chuck another blanket over me.

I did...and I notice that I was using my purple furry one then...I still have it but it's in my BFs campervan.

ah well, if you're using a different one now, then this thread should definitely keep going. I think people should post pictures of their bottles/wheat bags
