Hot milky drink without milk?

Is there a hot milky drink that I can make before bed that doesn't involve cow's milk? I'm not entirely dairy free but I don't like the taste of cows milk plus I try to avoid dairy if I can.

I'm really hoping for something I can just add hot water to.

Try hazelnut or oat milk, both are very nice as a bedtime drink. Especially oat milk.

Ovaltine comes in a 'just add water' version now. I like Ovaltine, good for insomnia.

I was going to suggest stock cube plus hot water. Yum.

How are you with almond milk? Almonds meant to have relaxant properties.

Would it be nice on it's own?

Never tried it although we usually have some in the fridge because my old man likes it on his cereal. I imagine it to be sweet?

These things aren’t milk free - they have milk powders in :hmm: They’re not super sweet either, which does upset hot chocolate/cocoa afficiandos but might be more what you’re after?

Yes, but a slightly bitter aftertaste. I’m a fan. Works well in coffee, should work with ovaltine etc

I'm trying to get away from hot chocolate and that's why I want something else :D

Yes, I really like both, since finding out that I'm lactose intolerant I've been discovering all sorts of interesting milks, oat milk is also great in porridge.

I doubt Options would have much cocoa content but if I have chocolate in the evening I end up wide awake for half the night :(
I have been eating and drinking way too much chocolate since I gave up alcohol

I think Ovaltine with water sounds like a good plan :)

This stuff says ‘just add water’. Easy.

Following on from bovril. You may have noticed that upthread.

So you thought you'd follow on from an earlier, totally inappropriate suggestion? Why?!

When milk is heated it undergoes a chemical change and creates chemical agents that aids sleep.

Nothing else is going to have this effect because it doesn’t have the chemical composition of milk.

So basically pick any hot drink and add a Valium if a non dairy drink is what you want but a milky drink contains milk hence the milk part of milky.

I didn’t suggest it. The OP indicated a dislike for bovril.

    Are you ok?

    Total nonsense, I'm afraid.

Ovaltine ingredients: Barley malt extract (46%), skimmed milk concentrate, glucose syrup, vegetable oil (coconut and rapeseed oil), fat-reduced cocoa powder (6%), whole milk powder, salt, stabilisers (E340, E452), milk proteins, vitamins (C, E, niacin, A, pantothenic acid, B12, B6, B2, B1, folic acid, biotin), calcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, sweetener (acesulfame K), emulsifier (E471), iron, anti-caking agent (E551).

Not a milk free drink, even with ‘just’ water.

Try something using oat/almond/rice milk as others have suggested.

It's not me posting up photos of high caffeine 'ROCKET FUEL' products in a thread asking for sleepy bedtime drinks.
