Cultivation goes way back to the Olmecs, then through Mayans and Aztecs. Originally unsweetened and mixed with herbs and spices.

have you been readin the internet???

what herbs and spices? oregano? mint? if youre gonna cheat, do it properly with all the facts!

Nah, just vague memories of random documentaries and bits of books... I have no idea what spices tbh but it shouldn't be hard to work out. I do know Montezuma loved the stuff. Of this i am proud. <smiles contentedly>

Swift google and a superb palette say that it probably involves some of the following:

Chilli
Cinnamon
Anise
Cumin (maybe)
Oregano

I've had a tin of Green & Black's cocoa powder in the cupboard for ages, due to my laziness and its non-instant-ness. What a waste.

You definitely want brandy in hot chocolate. Good at festivals to keep out the cold (or any time really).

Gotta be a BIG FAT SLUG of whiskey every time. And don't do any of that adulterating shit!! Just keep it pure and simple. A lovely fluffy blanket to snuggle under also adds to the vibe man.
(Hope nobody I know reads this and recognises me. I'm supposed to be a big, fuck off scary GEEEEEEZAAAAAAR!!!!)

I has some hot choc in front of me at the mo - with a slug of brandy in it.

Need to buy more brandy tomorrow.

I like it when it gets to this time of year - doesn't seem quite the same drinking hot choc with brandy in the middle of summer.

To make cocoa powder mix with water, first add a touch of cold water to your powder and mix it to a paste, then a bit more, then add the hot water whilst stirring - should make things a lot easier.

I always add cold milk first to my hot choc powder and make a paste, then add the hot milk - it makes it fluffy on top.

Hot chocolate with a shot of pear liqueur keeps out the cold on the longer nights.:)
