Hostel - bloody hell!

I'm probably covering a lot of what has already been said but:

1. The entertainment isn't supposed to be from watching others suffer but from the fear that it could happen to you or even to someone else, anyone else.
2. Its similar to why people like Rollercoasters. Its a morphine kick / adrenline rush type dealie.
3. Like most artistic forms a lot of horror has been done before and so to shock as much as previous fims the industry has to go further and further with new films and push taboos.
4. Just as rollercoasters get higher and faster as time moves on.
5. The nastier the situation the hero is placed in the more valuable their victory. From an entertainment point of view.

I like it that lots of students get chopped up in horror films.

As a genre, it's very harsh on young middle class people.

I like that.

The Dir is a funny guy... :).

I met him after he did cabin fever and he is indeed a funny guy. He is also a film nerd. I had never really been into gore but he persuaded me to watch ichi the killer and I have been a Miike fan ever since. I like what he did with cabin fever and it has one of the greatest pay off gags of any film at the very end.
I'm not such a big fan of Hostel but it's a fairly decent jaunt, waiting for the gore is the difficult bit in these films which gives repeat viewings far less impact. I can't imagine watching Wolf Creek again.

I have had Hostel 2 on DVD for about two years now and haven't found a good time to get around to watching it.

Why has no one come up with this idea before now!

Watched this last night. How the fuck is something this sadistic considered entertainment? Who actually enjoys this sort of thing?

Maybe Blockbuster should just stock real snuff movies and have done with it.

I enjoyed the part where the girl with the eye pulled out is still running and hiding and whatever with that other guy.

I think if your eye was pulled out, you'd just be lying on the floor screaming.

Wait until your daughter is about 5 and watch it with her.....introduction to gore is an important part of a childs life.

Ugh. I dunno. We have just put on some Ultraman video that someone gave her. She is watching it from over my shoulder now but I think she is adding her own 'theatre and drama' to her viewing pleasure than actually being scared.

I'm not sure I really approve but at least she is telling Ultraman that fighting is not the answer and that there should be another way to beat the monsters.

only reason i can recommend watching it for is seeing Heather Matarazzo (Dj's g/f from roseanne and many other annoying television character since the mid 90's) getting slain..

always hated every character she portrayed on screen .

I can't remember when exactly i got into horror but it was very young.

My mother would take me to the video store and whenever i was asked what i wanted to see it was never Disney films but something like Texas Chainsaw Masacre.

I was 12 when i saw Evil Dead and had been watching horror for years before that.

Desensitized at an early age me.

Black and White horror was scarier than gore as far as I was concerned. B&W film oh and Dr Who. Far scarier than Evil Dead.

DJ had a girlfriend? When did Rossanne finish, did he get to grow up?
