Horses...

I saw some of it this pm.

Very annoying that it was only on 'red button' which you can't record

Only olympic sport I'm interested in is equestrian and seems to get less viewing time than anything else.

We messed up in the team medals cos last rider missed out a movement :(

still, lovely lovely horses and such stylish riding clothes

Live dressage is on now.

I was at the hospital, being pulled about. :(

I know nothing about the technical aspects of it but watching the dressage it's clear to me that the skills required for it are enormous.

Indeed they are.

Well Im annoyed it's not on iPlayer! Equestrianism isn't the only Olympic sport Im interested in but it's far and away the one Im most interested in, and of all the disciplines the pure dressage is what I want to see!

Dressage is my discipline, the horse before this one I got to Prix St George level and I want to watch these people - they're competing at Grand Prix Special, which is the level that I aspire to and I want to see how its done!

AND - I don't have digital TV, so no red button!!! *double mad*

Maybe Saturday, eh? *crosses fingers*

ETA : Forgot to say - Michael Whitaker's out of the show-jumping before it even starts, Portofino's gone lame.
Nick Skelton will replace him though - hardly an inexperienced competitor himself!

<faints at Mysterygirl's riding skills> :D

God you must be good

I plod around on a fat pie of a Highland pony and struggle with walk to trot transitions :D

It's not me that's good, it's the horse. ;)

I do OK, my last horse would have managed all the Grand Prix movements (we'd just started one time changes, and had got to 6 good piaffe steps) when she went lame, but it was nowhere near as polished as these guys!

This horse is the daughter of the last one. Inordinately talented but unfortunately she's an absolute bag of nerves who quite literally jumps at her own shadow. I was working towards proper collection & flying changes with her but as of this week I've decided to side-track into trying to calm her down /reasuure her, to try to get some good work from her. The ridiculous level of spooking is holding her back, and now I need to find a way round it because we're not really progressing anymore. :(

anyway, all this talk of exercise has worn me out - Im off to bed. Night! :)

Serious Wow MysteryGirl, Im really inspired to read about your dressage prowess!
You is having a horsie! :D Any photos?

Try watching the equestrian team exploits on Iplayer. They have thorough round ups of most of the events there.

Failing that- the freeview boxes are £15/£17 at Tesco. Try Woolies too.

I would like to see some piccies too :)

I'll have to try to find some pix of me riding, I tend to take them rather than be in them so lots of the girls not many of me riding!

Freeview is a sore point in this household, short version is that until my council update the aerial on this estate I can't get freeview, unless I install my own aerial (first floor flat, no roof......). Obviously I'd have to pay for it, plus I'd still be expected to pay my share of the aerial upgrade when the council get around to it, so I'd pay twice! I can't afford that, I have a horse and a cat to support! They're due to upgrate the aerial around the time analogue is cut off. So the freeview box I've had for 2 1/2 years is STILL redundant!

Here's one of the horse I was hoping to take out at Prix St George but she went lame (arthritis) :

Heres one of the horse I have now, her daughter

I see your logic but think you're being far too picky over definitions.
Hardly! The GB eventing team had 4 women and one man, the German team had 4 men and one woman. Neither side would qualify as "mixed" under the usual rules of mixed teams. There's no restriction because gender is irrelevant.

That dressage clip is amazing mg - he's pointing his toes an' everything!

Lovely looking horsies MG! :D

Horse doping scandal at the Olympics.

Four horses that contested the Olympic show jumping event have tested positive for the banned substance capsaicin.
Ireland's Denis Lynch, riding the horse Lantinus in the individual events, has been suspended from the Games.
Norway's Tony Andre Hansen on Camiro, Brazil's Bernardo Alves on Chupa Chup and Germany's Christian Ahlmann on Coster have also been suspended.
