Horrific Bike Crash In Mexico

Thanks for the reminder of why Garf is one of two people on ignore...

i'm glad you think it's wise to ignore the idea that we should establish what's happened with facts before leaping to conclusions, in a situation with currently the scantest of facts and nothing reported other than alligations and suposition in order to push a passive aggressive anti car agenda.

i'll bet you'd have had those parents of the abandoned twins sterilised and deported too...

anythign to add to the thread about the topic now you've had your little ego tripping dig love?

nope thought not... as usual.

as for the legality of the ROAD RACE can you find me chaper and verse where any know country in the world will allow unsupported racing on open pulbic roads ...
Er ... yes ... the UK.

s.31(1) Road Traffic Act 1988 makes it illegal unless authorised by police and conditions imposed complied with.

The majority of cycle road races take place on open roads and with minimal support - certainly nothing like escort vehicles, etc, maybe a few marshalls at particular places.

erm you quoted the thing which says unsupported clearly in it then say with minimal support which isn't unsupported is it...

wtf is with the not reading on this thread...

no where have i said the race was illegal, only in the 'credible senario' which i provided to the editor the rest of you non reading morons really need to get off your fucking high horse and go back and look at what's been written.

But all off you carry on with your support of some passive aggressive argument which has become judge jury and exicutioner without the scantest regard to evidence...

since when did this place become guilty until proven innocent...

i'll state it again hopefully for the last time so that maybe you can all understand the very simple point.

WE DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.

we have a sensationalist picture and we have reporting of an alledged police spokesperson who alledges the driver was drunk and asleep that's it, nothing else, no supporting evidence fuck all...

yes there is a significant of the cow heard non reading knee jerk majority on this thread that are saying facts damn you eyes we want out prejudicies confirmed...

personally i find it pretty sick that so many urbanites want to use this to push their own agendas and prejudices as being entirely justified...

but hey...

What the hell is this argument about? Are all threads about news stories going to plummet down to 'did you go back in time and see it for yourself?', because this is already pretty ridiculous.

You made the claim to suggest that this bike race could not have been legal because there is no way a bunch of racing cyclists could be allowed to mix with other traffic on an open road.

In that you are talking bollocks, as I pointed out.

A similar bunch of racing cyclists could be found on many UK roads any weekend.

wtf is with your inability to acknowledge you are simply talking bollocks?

fuck off you twat. i'm conceding nothing other than the fact you appear to be determined to score cheap and stupid points.

so your claim is that those nasty corrupt mexican cops framed this bloke? you utter fucking prick.....

cyclist-crash_675860n.jpg

soz orang but fucking hell.

Err... no. I didn't claim that he was framed by the police. If you think I have, I'd be interested to see where. (You won't find any such post, because I didn't say that; I think you were just a little too keen to read something into what I said, that just wasn't there.)

All I said was that I don't think we should accept the police's version of events uncritically.

I can't really see why that's such a controversial point. After all, the idea that evidence is tested in court is the cornerstone of pretty much every justice system in the world.

I'm amazed that people are so upset by the suggestion that someone may be innocent until proven guilty, and that an assertion of guilt made by the police is not actually the same thing as proving guilt as a matter of fact (as many miscarriages of justice have shown). Since when did the good people of Urban75 take everything the Mexican police say as gospel?!

I'm not trying to score points. Nor am I trying to derail the thread. My input started when the editor asked if there could be any other explanation than the one offered by the police, at which point I suggested a few credible alternative hypotheses, and warned of the dangers of taking the police version of events at face value. And I'm not belittling the seriousness of what happend - it was a tragedy. If the guy was drunk and asleep, I hope he gets what's coming to him. But, I also happen to think that the principla of innocence until guilt is proven is pretty important, too.

As for calling me a prick. Well, that's just beneath contempt.

so you missed this bit at the bottom of my post then?

:o Err... yes. Sorry. :o:)

you don't know.

what's fare more tasteless is that the editor this site will lie about posters points in order to 'win' an argument...

who exactly can we get recourse from if the owner is lying about posters...

fuckign abysmal behaviour for which he should apologise to the entire community for...

You must be fucking joking... oh... nope, you're serious.

:D

Still, on the plus side - fuel is getting super-expensive, and my bike is still free and I pay no road tax on it.

:)
