Hootananny body searching drinkers. WTF?

BTW Wurly - over £8 for a double Scotch and mixer? How the hell do they justify that?

Bugger that for a game of soldiers. I'd be hipflasking if it came to that.

It's overpriced in there for sure, but as a pint man the 20p premium's bearable. Wine's pretty grim, but not obscenely expensive - especially when you've the Prince and others nearby.

The problem is that there's no reduction in price for buying a double (unless it's the frequently unavailable house spirit). I'm not positive but I reckon they charge you for two shots of mixer as well, just to be friendly like. It's Dark Ages stuff. I've occasionally gone from the Hoot to the Effra on a Sunday night with four mates and the price of our rounds has halved. Effra does 50ml bargain spirits (quality scotch) almost a fiver cheaper than the Hoot. I'm sounding a bit bitter here but it pisses me off; I wouldn't mind a fair mark-up to pay for the free music/Djs whatever but there should be a limit. I may investigate the hip-flask tactic for a laugh but ain't sure about it being a long-term solution (bouncers).

That's particularly harsh to be fair Wurly. I moan about the prices, but that takes the flaming mickey - I'd collar Kit or Sofia next time you see them to whinge frankly. There's no excuse for a double scotch costing over £8 in a theroretically Scottish pub.

The Effra's cheaper, but the manager's an unpleasant, leery idiot who I can't support. I'm not surprised spirits are cheaper there - I still remember Blue and his massively filled mug of rum. It was only a mug so you couldn't see how much in there.

Now if they had a pricing stucture that included a £5 Sassenach tax for the philistines who add mixers to their Scotch and used that to cross subsidise the price of the better single malts...

I'm not a Sassenach and malts are gay. Also, any fool knows spirits are much stronger with mixers due to the drunken brain's affinity to water (hence the hangover)
