Very interesting alternative. You don't actually have to "stay" at home to do this - you can go to the library and interact with other students after they get out of school. The best part about it is the independence of studying, and the elimination of parent-teacher conflict resolution. I was "homeschooled" and graduated from high school in 2001.

Home schooling can of course be done very well - but it is very difficult to ensure that the vast range of the expected skills are taught.

So great in theory but in practice it would have to be very last resort for me.
