I dunno what the fuck youre on about firky! :D

Neither does he, apparently ;) :p

*waves at Callie* I have been giggling at random moments all day about Hoppy. People at work think I've lost it totally now

No, haws = fruit from hawthorn bush/tree :p

Rose hips are rosehips and totally different :D

I thought so but I didn't want to argue. Rose hips are big large things stuffed with loads of hairy seeds and hawthorns come from those little trees that are covered in thorns and are all gnarly.

I dont think all rose hips are that big

big ones from dog roses (ornamental) are also known as itchy coos iirc cos they have an irritant around the seeds and kids wipe them on each other

further investigation reveals it is infact Rosa rugosa that has the big fat rosehips, dogrose is just the common ones you see, probably

Depends who you believe! :p

Bit like Americans calling what we call a plane tree a sycamore (or is it the other way round?) Hence we have the Linnaean Binomial system for plant nomenclature

During the war (not that i remember) people used to go out collecting rosehips for their vit c

there is as much vit c in 5 rosehips as you would get from a million oranges

They're rose hips ^^

Aren't they supposed to be good for babies?

Those look like itchy coos to me. Rosehips are more egg shape.

Never try and make rosehip syrup. It takes aaaaaages and it's a total pain.

_pH_, strangely enough I believe the hawthorn hedge that surrounds my front garden and has plenty HAWS on it :p
And the rosehips that grow about 2 miles away that I picked loads of to make afore mentiones syrup some years ago.

I KNOW what I'm doing with much native wild food.

When I was a kid I'd pick tatties for £15 a day and I thought I was rich.

I bet I would have been paid a shit load for picking those prickley bastards.

You would have been paid fuck all cos there was a war on :p

and youd have died of scurvy if you didnt pick them

Don't be silly, I'd put on my best doe eyes and be given some by kindly buxom damsels :)

You have a collection of lady deers eyes to wear??

thats a bit strange

*goes to look at pictures of tiny deers*

I want a pudu!!!

I know what you mean, Hawthorn berries are known as Haws in some places, but Rose hips can be too. I think it depends on where you live. Same as Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) can be known as Hawthorn, Quickthorn (although I've always thought this referred more to Blackthorn, Prunus spinosa) or May.

Thank god for Linnaeus.

Rose hips (also called rose haws)

e2a: Cow Parsley is known as 'kecksy' round here. Before I moved here, kecks were trousers. WTF?
