Home-made Xmas presents

I did Sloe gin last year but didn't have time this year. Am making my sister a box for pens (and possibly some pens as well) and my mother a table (she's paying for some of that, but I'd lose a lot if she didn't) this year.

I was broke last year so I painted everybody pictures.

Best response I've ever had from Christmas pressies!

I went through a stage of saying I was going to give everyone hand painted ceramics for Christmas this year.. I forgot about it, but walked past two ceramic cafes today, so have got the bug back!

Just have to wait for my fucking finances to come through...!

I made some baby bibs for a pregnant friend using some 1950's era fabric.

I crocheted several hats for other people.

I made my mother a leather address book.

For co-workers I made a batch of peach butter and a batch of apple cider jelly.

One year I bought leatherbound artist's journals and painted a design on them.

I'm currently working on an old fashioned Dr. Who scarf and hat set for me. So far this fucker is 13 feet long. :)

Hmmm some good ideas here. I was wondering what to get me mum and dad this year, as they've BOTH given up drinking now after my mum's detox - so can't just get the easy Expensive Bottle of Something.

Truffles sound good...as do biscuits...at least for my mum. Not sure me dad would be too chuffed with them. Might get him a Willie Nelson dvd instead

Got a recipe? I've got a holly tree in the garden. :)
please be aware holly berries are poisonous and not to be put on anything that you're going to eat

they're on a list of flowers/leaves not to be used on cakes :)

there are loads around :) depending on how much you know about using and tempering chocolate hang on I'll have a dig around :)

Thanks. but...Damn. They all contain alcohol. Will have to look for fruit-based ones or something...she's still off the booze

you can omit the alcohol :)
I've got some other stuff at home I'll send on to you :) it's very simple :)

Oh, and Wookey darling, any chance you can get that recipe off the mister, and post it up? My dad used to make ginger beer, and I reckon he'd love a few bottles now

if you use fresh cream in your truffles please be aware there is only a 5 day shelf life once they're made :)

Yeh, I was planning on making them on the 23rd Dec :) (I'm quite liking my newly-sober mother - she's a different person to the old nasty drunk:) - kinda started being worth a bit of effort)

Take some photos that they'll like and get them mounted somewhere or stuck on a mousemat or a calendar

Great little stocking fillers

You can do that. There's various sites where you can send a photo and they'll stick it on to stuff

It's 33p for a jar of mixed fruit jam near me - is that the cheapest glass jar I could get, do you think?

I don't want the jam, but I do need jars, and Value Jam was the solution I was given.

But we can do that ourselves - don't need to send it away

Take photo, print photo, stick photo to card - easy peasy :)
