Just got this press release:
A new bar/restaurant -Hive- just opened on 11-13 Brixton Station Road - just before you get to the recreation centre.

Downstairs is a bar restaurant with long oak wooden tables, olive walls and trendy bee wallpaper.

Simple English menu using locally sourced organic and seasonal ingredients where possible.

Sunday lunch is the piece de résistance with alternating roast and vegetarian options coupled with a serious Bloody Mary for under a tenner. Upstairs is a chilled out cocktail bar with impressive cocktail list.

This month sees the creation of Garden Party, a refreshing mix of Hendricks Gin and Pimm’s muddled with cucumber, mint, lemon and sugar, topped with ginger ale.

Open daily 11am-12pm (apart from Monday's)
I like the sound of the locally sourced organic and seasonal ingredients but what's "trendy bee wallpaper"?

I think you've got the pause wrong - it's trendy, bee wallpaper.

Everyone knows bees are trendy. ;)

I don't know, but at least it's not 'ethnic chic.' As far as press releases go that's a pretty inoffensive and promising one - thumbs up for the bee-toting wall-covering I say...

:)

I'm trying really hard to be positive and promise I will go there with an open mind.

But locally sourced ingredients? I'm willing to sell them some of my sorrel but there are very few farmers in Brixton for them to source from.

Still good luck to them.

Maybe the 'Bee' Wallpaper has something to do with the fact that it's called Hive. Sounds good though, be interested to try the veggie Sunday lunch which is near impossible to get in Brixton.

Just had a look in. Kinda trendy decor, smallish back bar, wooden tables and benches. Daytime menu looked tasty, with the burger at £7 the most expensive option and most things less than a fiver. Cocktail list was certainly eclectic if that's your cuppa tea. I rather like the bee wallpaper!

We had lunch there today.

And it was very good. Hendo had a steak sandwich, which he pronounced delicious (and he's had a fair few steak sandwiches in his time). The chips that came with it were excellent -- I think there were home-made rather than frozen.

I had some chickpea cakes, which were lovely -- really nutty, and came with plentiful herby salad and tomato sauce drizzled with yoghurt.

It was actually quite busy in there, which had come as a bit of a shock to the waiter, who was actually the bar manager who was filling in because the waitress was off sick or something. We chatted to him and he told us there was a small bar upstairs, which they're getting sorted at the moment.

The menu is short but seasonal, which I approve of, and changes every few days, apparently. They've sourced their fish from Mash & Co and the waiter seemed to think the chef had also been in touch with our lovely, neighbourhood butcher, Phillips.

All in all, very positive.
