Hither Green

Thats been gone YEEEEEEARS! Cheesemans! With the bridge over the highstreet into the shopping centre!

It had a cinema too!

Yep, I know :D

I had my ears pierced there

Welcome!

How are you finding getting about?

5/6 mins to the station, and 10 min trek into the insane-ness of Lewisham.

i'm enjoying the novelty of 8 minutes to london bridge. :)

it takes me about 9 mins to walk to the station but i'm a slow coach.

i had a nice stroll into lewisham earlier to go to the diy shop.

the flat is still covered in boxes, but i'm getting there.

Sleazier than The erstwhile Roebuck?!

Didn't seem sleazy to me. It was a lesbian bar - didn't know you were One Of Us. :D (It was the Phoenix for a while after it stopped being the Roebuck, too).

I met my GF at Yates's in Lewisham. :D

Hither Green's supposed to be one of the nicer parts of Lewisham. Not sure that means much.

A bit more like Lee Green than Hither Green is the Dirty South on Lee High Road. I wouldn't recommend it except for when they have their Outlaw nights at the end of most months and The Alabama 3 play an acoustic set there with loads of, admittedly hit and miss, support bands. Not hard to get to if you cut under the railway tunnel and hang a left.

*comes out* I are a lezzar!

Yeah, I used to go to Stonewalls for a dance/ drink/ flirt/ catch up and then on occasion would be dragged to the Roebuck. It was sleazy to me, but that may have just been the company I kept!:o

I thought it was just full of blokes in Moschino newspaper print jeans offering Smirnoff Ices in exchange for a length of penis?
(Disclaimer: This info was gained during the summer of 2002 and maybe somewhat out of date).

I really like Hither Green! Especially now it has a cash point!

Dirty South?
Is that where the sports bar used to be? Just up the road from Budget car hire?

Maybe it didn't seem that sleazy to me because my main comparison down there was Yates's. :D

My workmates and I used to go there for drinks, because it was big enough to fit us all, was extremely close to work and was en route to the station. It was a madly sociable workplace - a couple of dozen people would go on the booze together almost every single night - so we never really had to talk to the other customers. They even gave us all discount cards.

My GF was friends with one of my colleagues, and lived nearby at the time, so came out with us. We had our first kiss on their karaoke night, surrounded by my colleagues, who cheered. :D

Dirty South's Outlaw night is run by a mate of mine - it is good, or, at least, it has been when I've been there.

i went on my first couple of wanders oover the weekend.

on saturday i went to you don't bring me flowers and then walked up to blackheath.

on sunday i had a wander round mountsfield park.

can anyone recommend any cafes? a decent greasy spoon would be ace!

Maggies Cafe - Lewisham, by the station, is the best in SE13.

Manor House Gardens is a nice park. Overpriced cafe, farmers market on the first Saturday of the month & kids play ground.

Yeah, Maggie is a local legend. You can even get a pint or glass of wine with your breakfast, not that I wouldn't prefer the bottomless tea but it's nice to know you've got the option, especially the dinners. Rosa's diner , just through the tunnel, is possibly the cheapest caff in London and good for offal.
Hey, sci fi. Any chance of getting on the guest list? Dirty South has been through many a reincarnation, Sports Bar being one.

hello all.
the cashpoint in the co-op is now free too :)

anyway. has anyone been to the new deli beside the station? i got a nice panini on saturday. it wasn't too expensive either. they could do with more stock though!

No, yet to try the deli, but I poked my nose in & I give 3 - 6 months.
Co-Op cash point still the wrong side of the tracks for me.. Need one in the station & I am getting narked about being charged £1.75 from Mr Patels.

ah, you big cynic ;)

1.75? geez. i used to live in charlton which is equally cashpointless. i'll deliver you money for £1.50 ;)

I used to hate using that back entrance/ exit, but now with the fabulous 'new' florist and the deli its much more cheery on Springbank Rd.
That deli took FOREVER to get up and running. I wish it the best because its an awkward location.

The beauty/massage/yoga studio a door down from the florist is great! They do eyebrow threading AND yoga! Perfect combo!

Yes, I hear folks are coming from all over to see our new cash point.

Quite the tourist attraction now. :)

ooh, i'm going to hither green on friday

how exciting

Rollem if you find Hither Green exciting you do need to get out more often. Hither Green is very quiet & a wee bit dull, that's why we like it & we do not need you exciting Brixton types making it all happening..

Maybe we should charge admission..??

Def open saturdays, and open to 6 or 7 during the week.

Im heading that way today, en route to Manor House Library, I'm going to have me eyebrows done!

cheers.

when is the actual library reopening?

i joined the library a few weeks ago. i haven't got anything out yet though.
