Hillary Clinton as new US Secretary of State??

:D

From NBC’s Andrea Mitchell:

Two Obama advisers have told NBC News that Hillary Clinton is under consideration to be secretary of state. Would she be interested? Those who know Clinton say possibly. But her office says that any decisions about the transition are up to the president-elect and his team.

Clinton was seen taking a flight to Chicago today, but an adviser says it was on personal business. It is unknown whether she had any meeting or conversation with Obama while there.

Other Democrats known to want the State Department post are Sen. John Kerry and Gov. Bill Richardson. A possible compromise choice would be former Sen. Tom Daschle

Not at all!
He's just very very slightly to the left of Bush and Cheney

It's just that, if you think all US politicians are right-wing (I can see your point there), and Hillary's also right-wing, why would that make her a worse choice than all the other right-wing politicians?

wife of bill clinton, and although all politicians lie she does it more shamelessly than most

she DOES (well, maybe) want universal healthcare though, so she must be a "communist"

She did work for years trying to get something like that to happen, didn't she? Doesn't sound bad for an American politician.

It doesn't make her a worse choice, unless she'd do something markedly different from her predecessors (if she is appointed Secretary Of State - which I gather now means Foreign Secretary), which is doubtful.

I don't really understand your first post, then, when you said didn't like any right-wingers and then asked why it had to be her. That does mean she's a worse choice because she's right-wing. I R confused.

I was just wondering why out of all the people who could have been appointed, Clinton was frowned upon by frogwoman, when they're all the same really.

You would have thought that after her lies about what she did in Northern Ireland, she should be disqualified from the job really.

She acted like a virgin schoolgirl at the start of the school year claiming to have had a shag during the school holidays, but forgetting that the boy she says she slept with has just transferred to her school.

The previous two women in the job were quite a pair of hawkish nutters or close to it anyhow, so I vote for a homosexual SoS... :D It's time...:p:D

The best gloss I can put on many of Obama's appointments is that he wants certain people 'inside the tent pissing out' 'rather than outside the tent pissing in'. In more polite terms he wants them under control. This I hope is why he has included so many Republican sympathisers.

The truth or otherwise of this will be revealed when we see Obama defining policies for his new recruits rather than listening to them and allowing them to define his policies. Here in the UK Gordon Brown did the listening and following, but then nobody was surprised at this as he did not do a campaign to be Prime Minister or get voted in on any proposed 'changes' but just inherited the job on a promise.

Obama needs to decide whether he just wants four years based on votes garnered through desperation or longer, based on delivering change that he has hinted at.

This I hope is why he has included so many Republican sympathisers..

Imo, the reason he's including republican types, is that he's putting his money where his mouth was when he said he wanted to end the politics of divisiveness in the US. He wants to develop a broad based concensus on the way to get the country on the right track again.

He's modelling this on Lincoln, who formed a cabinet that included adversaries and rivals.

It wouldn't be at all surprising.

Her campaign against Obama was dirty, but she had some good policies.

I'm not sure about her policies but I thought Obama would consider her.

Here are the others in the frame.

Several big names have been mentioned in the press as possible Obama secretaries of state, including another former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, New Mexico governor and former UN ambassador Bill Richardson, a favorite of the powerful Latino community; and moderate Republican Senator Richard Lugar.

John Kerry? LOL!!!! :D

What is Secretary Of State? Is that like Home Secretary or something else?
No it's America's equivalent of Foreign Secretary

Not too sure what people's problems are with Clinton (other than the fact she's not a Marxist and happens to be a woman). I always thought she leaned slightly to the left of Obama? From an American point of view, I think this would be a good move - having a strong well respected character representing you around the world. From 'our' point of view, I guess she must be similar to Bill in foreign policy terms which I know most people in the U75 bubble will claim makes her and evil right wing neocon, but compared to what we've had for the last 8 years it would be a God-send. At least Bill Clinton managed to get people talking to each other and did help resolve some problems (despite his failure in the Middle East, which, let's be honest, is the only thing a lot of people here care about)

Ah, so when she was first lady she spent 2 years alienating every single ally she had for the universal healthcare bill, so obviously it would be a good idea to send her out into the world to alienate everyone that is currently loved up with BHO and leave the US completely isolated.

I mean, that would be an achievement if nothing else...

Erm yea...right

Well she did - she was so exceptionally bossy and abrasive that loads of House democrats who supported the Clinton HC plan ended up deserting her.
