Highgate

Just nobody mention the vampire
I will!!...this is the time when I went to school in Highgate and the main big muthafucker of a dare was to be dared to go into the cemetry and stay in for an hour after dark....and I saw a dead dog with all of it's blood sucked out** at the gates of the old cemetry.....apparently this is what the vamp did....poor dogs :(

**well I've stuck to that story for twenty years and I aint changing now!!!

Archway's dire, don't go near it. But I don't particularly like Highgate either. Almost polar opposites, really. And what is it with that Italian pizza place or whatever it is, at the top of the hill, opposite the tube station... the size of the place and the weird wood tables and chairs means it can only seat about 10 people in any one time! How the fuck do they ever make money?

Oh my good, that sounds horrible! Maybe I should rethink living in Highgate.:)

Is that tiny Indian restaurant still there, run by a hippy woman of about 85?

Kiplings? I think it shut down in about '01. I heard more than a few whispers about questionable health & safety practices.

i used to love living in archway:D so piss off archway haters!!!!!..its not a bad area at all for crime(esp. compared to bethnal green where i am now),some streets are quite pleasant in N19... ok not like highgate village but pretty nice esp. the bits bordering crouch end...

the best thing about highgate cemetry WEST bit i mean(east bit is guided tours only, i think that is where the vampire was most active and black magic took place)was there was a back way in behind whittingdon hospital
so u didnt have to pay admission(yes even the less historic east bit you must PAY..tho it does have marx..pay to see his grave;) )
anyway the back way in has a huge fuck off fence now:(
that place was a highlight of the area for me..and the god botherer charity shop near archway station.

anyway enuf about archway...good luck in highgate!
queens wood is great for a little escape..havent checked out boogaloo yet but there is a club night there "the beautiful and the damned" which seems to have an interesting 20s thru 40s music policy run by dickon edwards google him he is a pretty nice person and a local character you could say..

i live in highgate, really really close to the boogaloo (sp?) and the station. it's a nice area, very quiet and safe. got all the usual (needed) conveniences plus it's close to a wonderful park and karl marx. only downside is that all the pubs on the high street (the village) are full of yuppies and that a large part of the area consists of "private streets", ie sort of gated communities. apparently the inspiration for the suede song "we are the pigs".

all in all: nice area.

fanny batter.

i stay in archway now. it's class. Lots of cheap restaurants, inc some good veggie ones if dat's your ting.nt swarming with wankers (like old st, where i used to stay) and having been here about a year, a pretty safe place.

Also a fair amount of attractive eastern european and italian laydeeez, which is a breath of fresh air after old street where they all look like hogs' jaws.

NB: highgate's fairly dull though. there's not really much there is there?? or is there any more to it than those five shops near the tube station, a timberyard and a cemetry? Apologies for my ignorance if there is.

Highgate High Street has a few more than 5 shops on it. Seems to be loads going on there. Very pretty also.

Cheers for all the comments guys. Very usefull. We've finally found a house, near the tube station, boogaloo and parks. The flat is well nice, on a leafy road with free parking and communal gardens.

I've been to Highgate a lot (looking at flats and checking the area) and yes it is slightly boring and yuppified and uppety. BUT, its soooo nice, trees and birds ffs and we've found a few down to earth pubs and bars.

The only things we haven't found so far are:
Any good restaurants
Any good clubs
Any shopping
Any food shops

Any ideas people?

clubs? shopping? forget it. you won't find it in highgate.

food stores? there's tesco on the high street and sainsburys/some other one down in archway, that's it i'm afraid.

but the parks are nice. :)

So what is there then? Sounds like all the main things!

So apart from lacking the essentials in life it's great?! :)
