Highgate Cemetery overflowing

    It's in crisis. At a cost of between £20,000 and £40,000 per plot, there are still over 80 burials a year there and it's overflowing. I see they are having a public consultation on what to do.
    Inter under the footpaths is one option, another is doubling up the graves. What do people reckon?

    Highgate and the others of the Magnificent Seven were originally built to deal with a lack of burial space in London that led to bodies being physically forced out of the ground. They’ve done pretty well to last since the mid 19th century I guess.

    Wow, is it that much to be buried there :eek:
    I used to live nearby and have been in a few times.
    Didn't know they'd run out of space, didn't think they had many burials nowadays. The last I can remember seeing was Malcolm McLaren.
