High or low gears?

The older I get the more I have to worry about my knees, the more big gears I mash the more they hurt after a ride. Spinning is the way to go. On the flat I'll be on the big front and 5/6/7 at the rear depending on the wind.

Right so in normal speak that'll be the low gears then.

Mostly the largest front ring, mostly the smallest rear, so as high as it goes. Largest front and larger rear for setting off at lights etc, even though I know I shouldn't do that cos of the chain line. It's mainly because I trust the rear derailleur more.

Middle front ring for climbing ordinary hills. The granny ring for MTB only.

I've a 53 and an 11 so if you were to do that on my bike, I would like to see you start it from standing.

I run in 13 of 18 which I find keeps the cadence where I like it. 15th is enough to hit 35 down hill and beyond that its difficult to turn the wheels even going down hill.
