Hi! Which of these fabrics do I like most?

Brideshead Revisited (looking at wiki's entry on Evelyn Waugh) is one of the 4 Waughs I haven't read :o

I don't know why, but.

The only reason I can think of is that the book shops I went into around my Waugh time didn't have any copies in stock.

Mrs Quoad's alcoholic book buying = buy one book. Like book. Buy all else by same author.

I thought that was normal :(

It's one of his best, imho.

Which college?

From my graduate admissions tutor:

And the Gown Information Page, ha.

;)

And yes, pap, I probably could've got one second hand :o But on that front do seem to've come over all Brideshead revisited :o

I lived in Cambridge for 24 years, and have friends in many colleges, and also have even more friends who have graduated from different Cambridge colleges, if that is what you meant by your "which college" question.

I'm going to need them for formal dinners...

And I'll need one for, uh, thingy... *checks email* matriculation on October 2nd, for graduation at the end of the year, and for quite a few dinners in between!

borrow one or get one s/hand.

my ex went to cam and on the odd occasion when he definitely needed one, he borrowed one from a mate. it definitely wasn't worth shelling out that kind of money for something you'll wear only a few times. imo, like.

ooooh shirty!

I don't think Quoad was insinuating that you were lying, Guin :) Don't the different colleges have different rules and stuff?

That's what I meant :) Different rules &c. :) I'm fully aware that I'm going to one of the more old-farty colleges :)

Did I come across as being shirty? I didn't mean to! I just didn't know what he meant by saying "which college".

Ooh, is that a polycotton shirt, or a cotton shirt? :D :D

I'm seeing tension where there is none now - time for an urban break on the horizon :D

It did read a bit terse.. needed a :)

You are probably right - I usually add those emoticons all over the place. I think the lesson is just as much about me not posting from work when in a hurry, too! :)

I am still not sure what the questioner meant by "which college", by the way. If it is which college did I go to, I am not telling! If it is which college did my mates go to, the answer is all of them! :)

But anyone who buys a gown just to go to university in the 21st Century is a sweetie with far too much money. IMHO, of course :D

"Which college", as in which college did the 'cape not needed' come from! Full answer received :)

I did - admittedly - foolishly go by the recommendation of the graduate union's forum board, combined with that of my graduate admissions tutor... A couple of years ago I would've been far more inclined to wing it - atm, if it costs me a few extra quid before going down to make life less stressful once I arrive, then tbh - yes! - I'll sacrifice 100 quid and suffer the indignity of gruel for a few more weeks ;)

Moving from Huddersfield Ex-Polytechnic to Cambridge - I am rather daunted by the whole formality thing. It clearly is quite a difference. And atm I'd rather over-prepare a la Watership Down than feel like a complete arse on arrival :o Which I inevitably will anyhows, but at least I'll feel like an arse in a cape  ;)

The formality stuff in Cambridge can be a complete irrelevance and distraction these days, to be honest. You no longer have servants, either, I am afraid :)

You will soon get used to how grand things look, and realise that, in fact, it's mostly pretty grotty and in need of a lick of paint, once you get away from the immediately visual bits.

Mostly, enjoy! Cambridge is a wonderful city. Seriously, you should try exploring beyond the university, too. A lot of people don't do that, and really miss out. I know I didn't find out how wonderful Cambridge is until long after I had graduated.

And wear a gown if you want to! :D

*cape.

I have decided it is a cape ;)

That way, there's absolutely NO way it isn't worth it :)

Just ask strumps - capes make teh fkn whoosh noise :)

TY, G2! :D
