PK: "Turn and flee." WE still have 2500 men up there first of all.Try reading UNIFIL reports once in awhile. Secondly, we left unwillingly but were forced by International pressure via that cease fire . Were you not aware that Israel via US pressure was pushing for MORE time?
"Leaving clustyer bombs behind." There are scores of UN demining teams working on that as I post this. Where is the UN to find the still missing 400 Hezbollah bombs from the original 1700 that were missing?
Descartes: I am reading too many Israeli newspapers? That actually made me laugh out loud. OK, if you think so. Um, to be fair I ought to tell you that I am in the IDF and was up north so anything I talk about with concern to Lebanon [this time around as well as 83 to 86] is from my subjective expereince.
"Pickup trucks with corrugated sheets." First off, we did not use gunships save for a single mission at sea. Secondly, launchers were usually multiple launchers with a battery for 10 shells at a time, not pickup mounted b.s. They even had turntable launchers on hydraulic lifts that rose and sank into their tunnel networks. Their set up was very sophisticated. Their truck mounted, i.e. "mobile launchers," were usally on 10 wheeled flatbeds with camo netting or regular van type box.
"Damage from Hezbollah within Israel is kept out of the media." Seems YOU need to read some Israeli papers because nothing is censored within Israel proper as long as it is not related to military affairs [and bombings by another nation , as long as itis not a military target here, is not a military affair]. Every time a Qassam or Grad lands there is a report and anytime there is damage, physical or human, it is accompanied by full color photos.
"Tunnels, behind bushes is p.r." Were you there? No. So please stop talking out your rear. I was there and the tunnels were very extensive. Many Hezbollah fighters and friends [AMAL was also fighting us as were assorted individuals] would use every trick in the book. they are seasoned in Assyemtrical warfare and Hezbollah at least had their eyes on martyrdom so yes, they did jump out , etc.
"Waste of time and risk top all." Not when Nasrallah says no less than 22 times that had he known the depth of our response he would not have authorised the operation that resulted in the murder of the 6 and kidnapping and wounding of the other 2. To prevent further attacks against a single Israeli makes it entirely worthwhile and the only thing bothering the majority of Israelis is the length of the listing of militants killed and militant infrasrtucture destroyed.
"In Gaza the military authorised killing sprees." Please offer a mainstream source offering a shred of proof for that drivel. Thank you.
"Killing of neutral reporters." Wartime correspondents run the risk of death as does any uninvolved person who willingly and knowingly enters a live fire zone. The fact that the media was allowed there shoots down your fantasy that Israel was slaughtering civiclians, etc. Many press passes in Dafur? Grozny?
"Action against a patrol is sufficient for an attack against a sovereign state." When said state iignored a binding UN Resolution that compelled it to disarm the militant group that has created a state within a state, and that militant group repeatedly attacks Israel and its people with seeming impunity, culminating in the July 12th attack...then YES.. Since that state is now ignoring 1701 [refusing to disarm the militany group ensuruing further aggression directed towards Israel].
Israel is not fretting over a US/Iranian confrontation.
A union of Muslims is taking place? You should pick up a paper now and then and check the latest scorecard for the Shia/Sunna flareups in Iraq? Pakistan?
