And it's getting worse. 16 since last August and 44 near misses. 5 deaths in the past 10 days
If you know any injecting herion users in South wales warn them that a lot of experienced users are going over. Potentially dodgy/pure batch doing the rounds. smoke a bit before you consider injecting.

:) Thats reassuring, thank you,

Tho i arent really really worried, I was a junkie for about 9 years so i know how time just disappears, I'm sure we'd hear if anything bad had happened,
Wish he'd sort himself out soon tho, his sons 6ft 1 now, a young man, he may not want to know him in a few years.

sorry for derail.:)

I have a child who is a heroin user and from experience the quickest way to get treatment here in Swansea is to get arrested. Then they give you a script for methadone which by thier own admission is just as addictive.

Its such a shit counterproductive, viscious circle that it leaves me feeling helpless at a helpful idea to solve this sad situation....:(

Take a look at
this... a politician thinking outside the box on heroin.

That's odd - just tried the link and it worked OK.

The URL is http://www.welshpolitics.com/ - it's Leanne Wood's website and has a piece about plans to prescribe heroin for addicts.

A similar policy in Switzerland has seen a collapse in the supply chain as addicts don't feel the need to supply other addicts to maintain their criminal habit. It has stabilised many people's lives and the clinics that prescribe the heroin are all about reducing the doses over a number of months and years.

Nah, sorry cant get that one either. But the whole prescribing heroin malarky is nothing new. Before I moved to Wales I used to work at the Injectables Clinic in Chelsea. They've been prescribing heroin to drug users for over 15yrs now, with good effect. They also prescribe injectable methadone for those people who cant move away from injecting. What we "in the trade" call needle fixation. In Gwent we've got a couple on the books, but it isnt widely advertised. I think substance misuse services are afraid that if they shout about it, they'll get swamped !!
