Hello - could anyone living in the Herne Hill area who doesn't want to see the local sorting office close please add their name to the petition by contacting Nick Vineall as per the instructions below. Cheers!

HERNE HILL SORTING OFFICE CLOSURE
PLEASE HELP YOUR VILLAGE WARD COUNCILLORS
STOP THE CLOSURE.

ROYAL MAIL PLAN TO CLOSE THE SORTING OFFICE IN HERNE HILL WITHOUT ANY PUBLIC CONSULTATION. IF THAT HAPPENS:

1. YOU WILL HAVE TO COLLECT ITEMS FROM CAMBERWELL STATION ROAD

2. OR YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY 50P PER ITEM TO COLLECT FROM THE CRAMPED POST OFFICE COUNTERS IN COSTCUTTERS

3 THE CLOSURE WILL MEAN EXTRA JOURNEYS TO COLLECT MAIL

THE PROPOSE CLOSURE IS BAD FOR THE COMMUNITY AND BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.

The local Village Ward councillors robin Crook-Shank Hilton, Toby Eckersley and Nick Vineall ( chair of Dulwich Community Council)
are organising a petition calling on Royal Mail to
1. Halt The closure of Herne Hill Sorting Office
2. Consult Publicly about any plans to close the Sorting Office
3. Carry Out a proper environmental assessment

To support the petition email your name and address to
[email protected] saying you support the petition or sending a text with your name and address and " support petition" to 07961 315 5008 - QUOTE REF HHF

How about:

- Close the sorting office

- Use the money saved to pay Costcutters to keep parcels (at no extra charge to customers)

Then people would be able to pick up parcels at sensible hours of the day?

(This is written as a user of the Blenheim Gdns sorting office, where you can only collect stuff before lunchtime and have to queue outside for the privelage. Maybe things are different in Herne Hill)

Because there are generally only about 2 people at the PO counter in Costcutters which isn't enough to do all the usual PO stuff let alone add in the parcel collection aspect

In my experience the posties in Herne Hill are generally very good about trying to deliver parcels to the door. That's because there's a local sorting office and they don't have to carry them out very far. But that will no doubt change if the operation reverts to Camberwell...

*on a related note

It's been a fucking nightmare for local residents - particularly the elderly - after they closed down the Coldharbour Lane PO and forced people to trudge to Ferndale Rd and face the living hell of that hideous main office.

Good luck with the fight.

....maybe use the saved money to fund an extra member of staff at the PO counter as well, then.

But why not just leave things the way they are?

If the reasons for closing it down are to save money, then what's the point on spending it improving another facility, when there is a perfectly good facility there already? It makes no sense at all!

ggod luck with that, a few years ago they wanted to close down the clapton office in brooke road, we would have had to get to leyton to pick up parcels:mad: there was a local campaign, the local paper got involved, and it's still open:)

Sure, if the existing facility is perfectly good.

And if the cost of providing an equally effective alternative facility isn't substantially less than retaining the existing one.

Like I said, I was writing from the perspective of someone using the Blenheim Gdns office, and that facility is pretty hopeless. I don't have experience of the Herne Hill office, maybe things are better there.

I've certainly had no issues with the Herne Hill sorting office, and I doubt many of the users on this thread have either - certainly not to the level of the hassles I hear about Blenheim Gardens!

herne hill sorting office is BRILLIANT

maybe if they decide to close it we should all occupy the place and refuse to leave. :D

why is the Govt trying to ruin the post office? Seems like they're doing it in on purpose. Cuts everywhere, office closures etc etc. When our tv licence renewal came through the other day, it said you can no longer buy the TV licence from a post office. Why not? Post Offices are going to the wall all over the country.....and it's no wonder when all the services that attract people to them in the first place are being taken away. I don't understand
