Here's a whining racist scumbag

That's an incredibly stupid thing to say on a thread like this. What makes you think Neanderthals were racist?
Aren't we all a bit Neanderthal? That BBC article manages to be really specie-st by the way (they were responsible for 'smoking addiction'???). What was it about Neanderthals that causes so many homo sapiens to lose their cool, even today after millennia of Neanderthal extinction?

It shouldn't be anybody's thing, not in 2014 :(

The problem being (outside of the usual minority of pathologically-prejudiced nerks) that racism has a political utility that the ruling class just aren't prepared to let go of. It's so handy for dog-whistle politics, especially in urban marginals, that all three mainstream parties have used it in the last 20 years.

I'm surprised that no one has said he is a misunderstood angry white working class man who can be won over to socialist politics.

Someone mentioned the ruling classes, mind. We're kind of in the territory. Personally, I've experienced enough to know that racism has no social/cultural/pigment boundaries. The one uniting factor is fear, ignorance and stupidity.

No idea what happened to that reply. Bizarre.

shygirl I'm not sure what you're trying to say. You've quoted my post, then added an unlinked clip of text without saying anything. Are you telling me that I'm wrong to propose the 'pavement solution' for this headbanger?

Hey nino, the unlinked clip of text was my response (a general one) to the idea of heads hitting pavements. I wasn't saying that this guy shouldn't be dealt with in that way.

I'll bite :)

Who knows? He might well have changed and be thoroughly ashamed of his former self. I've known a few people who used to be really, vilely racist and genuinely learned not to be. Perhaps prison gave him a kick up the arse and it's a problem that no one else can get past it.

Do people want to hound those who once did something terrible forever, even when they've paid a price and show remorse?

Oh and whoever it was who slagged him off for being fat - that wasn't your finest moment, really, was it?

Well said.

This guy could be at a crossroads. He might have gone through life with racist attitudes learned in childhood, not really giving it much thought. Then he gets caught up, and serves some time. Sometimes something like that can serve as a wake-up call.

But he gets out, and the punishment intensifies. He loses his job, can't get another. He becomes an object of ridicule/hatred. He finds the means of supporting himself and his family shrinking around him.

Most people in that situation, would begin to feel themselves to be the object of an injustice. They've served their time, but it never ends. It's possible in that situation to become radicalized in the former beliefs, almost as a defensive reaction.

And in the end, with society in general rejecting him, who is most likely to give him a job? Other racists or racist organizations.

If there's no belief in forgiveness; if there's no belief that attitudes can change, then all that is left, is war. If no one can change, then the only way to bring about change, is by eliminating those who are seen as having the wrong beliefs.

Oh god a priest's here. Do we have no way of evaluating these things then? Whether something is real or just convenient. The stuff this lad says is bog-standard - esp in sentencing or other self-interested arenas - like in the article. What's your criteria for believing them? Do you have any? One is behaviour after original offence. He managed to get done a second time for the same shit.

Now, either talk about this case or talk in general terms.

Here's his mate trying to attack the busker:

The man with the blue shirt tries to punch him but Melo dodges the blow and the drunken thug ends up punching the metal shutter covering a shop window instead.

Melo continues: “Get away from me, seriously.”

But Muir replies: “You are a black b******.”

Melo says: “I am black and proud. You try me. Seriously, I am not joking.”

As Muir circles the busker menacingly, his pal holds his hand out and tries to trick Melo, into shaking it but he says: “Leave me alone.”

The blue-shirted thug throws another punch but falls over as Melo dodges.

The busker tells him: “That’s what you get for being stupid.” He pleads again: “Leave me alone, the both of you.

e2a ... (having watched the video on a friend's fb at work)

Very impressed with the busker who - despite being quite entitled to knock the living fuck out of the one in the blue shirt at the very least - held back and said 'I don't want to take advantage' (of their drunkenness) . I don't suppose such magnanimity could be expected from Tweedle-Dum and Tweedle-Dumber had they been able to fight anything other than sleep and had the busker shown any weakness.

The busker is clearly a man at peace with himself, the world and his attractive baldy heid. Unlike our white, baldy, chubby chap who - just as clearly - is carrying all sorts of troubles in his pug-ugly, follicly-challenged cranium.

Unlike some posters I do think it is legitimate to mention both his baldy heid and his fat gut.

I would imagine they both contribute (or are symptomatic of) his self-hate. Although he chose to abuse the busker racially, I suspect his real issue was that our busking friend is young, talented, popular, athletic, good-looking and clearly a happy and contented man.

I wonder if the Asian policewoman he abused was arresting him for racially abusing the busker? He must have thought it was a conspiracy .

Love how he handled it, an utter shame he had to handle it, but well done him. On the balls of his feet popping out jabs, brilliant stuff.

 Yep. Even kept to body shots too when he was forced to throw a punch, when he could easily have just knocked him out.

He clearly felt sorry for them in their ignorance, even though they head ruined his 'moment of joy'.
