Here comes the European elections!

Newcastle result:

Lib Dem 15646
Labour 14148
Con 8678
UKIP 6876
BNP 5152
Green 4443

Lib Dems up 1% Lab -7% Con -1% UKIP +1% BNP +5%

Surely it is UKIP which has much more chance of getting some of its ideas on the political agenda than the BNP which will be lucky to get one seat.

apparently, the Swoppies are protesting across the country, what a joke they are

BBC reporting the LibDems are saying that Griffin hasn't won his seat in the NW, one assumes based on what they have observed of the count.

Treelover get a life.

The BBC website has got 17 seats for 'The Left' so far, contrasted to 67 for 'the socialists'. Some are from France and Germany, so I assume its Die Linke, but wot from France?

My fears about the BNP doing well were largely based on how close they came in some areas last time. I will be very happy if they dont even get one this time, though it probably means UKIP have done well.

FFS, you really are insular clowns in the SWP.... It's the NPA and CP in France that are deemed 'The Left' in this election.

exactly, they represent no one, student politics innit?

You're missing the point. They're protesting because it will allow them to mythologise that they actually did something worthwhile to stop the BNP achieving power, not because they represent anyone. Now they'll be able to tell themselves that they did something beyond shrieking about the "Nazi BNP".

I know 2 people who are part of that UKIP vote - fuck!!!
Mind you they weren't very happy when i told em what lies behind their anti Europe agenda.
Worrying that over 5000 voted nazi though - yikes!

Hague is expounding that PR allows people to have a cost free protest vote, but surely it also allows for people to have the chance to vote for a party, extreme left or right which is much more proximate to their beliefs

true, but in the case of my 2 'mates' listed above, they just didn't have a clue what they were voting for...

I think there should be a system where you can vote for up to 3 candidates and vote for 1 you DON'T want to get in.

Yes I know its NPA and a CP coalition, twat, what i wanted to know was who actually got some MEPs from those two?

Manchester

Lab 27502
LD 16424
Tory 11896
Green 12225
UKIP 8002
BNP 6796

Very bad for BNP.

edit: 76%, still close to what's likely to be the threshold.

does anyone know if there's any rules about deposits in these elections? Say if you get under a certain amount you lose a deposit?
