Help with measuring for a bra

DD isn't that big! honest. the 4/5 inches comes from when bra bands didn't have elastic in them. i'm 28 inches under by boobs and i wear a 28/30 size back.

Yeah, the measurement under your boobs gives you your back size, I'm 30 inches there so I need a size 30 bra. Then I know I'm somewhere approximately between a D and an E depending on the make of the bra so I have to try on a few to see what fits best.

Is that 30m inches straight or 30 inches once you've added 4 or 5 inches?

I didn't think I was either, but I am. Doesn't necessarily mean that you have huge tits. :D
That reasoning can go the other way too.

One site says 36DD is equivalent (in appearance of size) to a 32F. So that means if your band size is bigger, the cup size might be smaller, but you still have quite big tits (36A would look the same in tit size, even though round the ribs is bigger, as a 32C).

Thank you.

But they do have elastic now so the 4/5 thing is bollocks?

That's kind of what I meant - if you're narrow round the ribcage (like me), your cup size is likely to be bigger, even if you're boobs aren't that big.

If you look at a 32 D and a 38 D bra and compare the actual size of the cups, the first will not hold as much boob, water, jelly, peanuts, whatever than the second.

So if you're not narrow then the cup size will be smaller. So you could look like your tits are D's but the bra you wear is an A/B?

(trying to get my head round it more than anything :D)

Courtesy of spangles from a previous thread..........

there's no great mystery to bra fitting - but a tape measure is useless. there is some variation between manufacturers, but not that much.

anyway. get a selection of back sizes in the same bra. try them on - ignore the cup size at this stage (obv, choose one big enough to fit them in, but you can fine tune the exact cup size later).

Do it up on the middle or loosest row of hooks. your correct back size will fit snugly to your rib cage. if someone cut off the straps, it shouldn't feel like it would go anywhere. If you've been wearing bras that ride up, this will probably feel a bit restrictive at first.

Then, having decided on the band size, choose a selection of cup sizes, in a variety of styles (different styles suit different shaped boobs).

Tighten the shoulder straps. If the underwire isn't sitting snugly into the cleavage, go up a cup size (and keep doing so until it does) - ditto if it digs in under the armpit. If there is loose fabric in the top of the cups, go down a cupsize.

Happy? Think again about the band size... maybe try the next size down with a size up in the cup.

Basically, the snugger the fit on the ribcage, the better the support (up to a point).

obviously, the width of straps, number of hooks, and coverage of the cup will affect support too, but if you have the right size, you can take some liberties with the style.

What do you mean by "look like your tits are D's". :D

Basically, most women are wearing a bra that is too loose on the ribcage, and too small in the cups. Most would benefit from going down a couple of chest sizes, and up a couple of cup sizes. Before I went to Rigby & Peller, I thought I was a 36B. I'm actually a 32D/DD.

I don't mean you :D

I mean if your ribcage is larger, but your cup size an A/B then your tits will look bigger than someone who's say a 30/32 A... that right?

Oh well, I've just ordered two of them in different sizes and I'll send back the one that doesn't fit.

Neither of them was a DD - sorry quimmy and kanda :(
