Help - too much milk!

What on earth is Carrageen? Is it man made?

Seaweed, Irish moss or sea moss. Makes E407 apparently.

ETA: bugger you, pilch, you beat me to it, but at least I provided a link for the poor misguided soul ;)

It's seaweed. You ought to know that, you plastic paddy! :p
I'm an urban plastic paddy, scornful of his parenst and their traditions though (which didn't involve eating seaweed btw but growing up in a post WW2 urban enviroment)

No way am I eating moss or seaweed!

I feel your pain, but this stuff is big news at the Ballycastle fair!

And if you're eating "ice cream, jellies, soups, and confectionery" with E407 in them, then you already are :p

I suggest you write this down on a post it and stick to your head..

"check out what the iriots deliver, before letting them go"

I'd end up giving it to the neighbours or something, no way would I eat full fat cows milk.

*shudders*

I'm already feeling sick because I've had too much dairy products today.

You can't do that though - they bring a box to the door filled with about 5 carrier bags, and you hardly have time to take the bags out and put them in the house before they bring the next box, then the next, them the next - and I'm not standing around with the door open letting the cold in and making him wait while I check them!

I don't know if other people do this, mind.

No, you have to return refridgerated goods to the store within two hours, and I can't be arsed walking down there to return things that I didn't even order (and which I didn't have to pay for anyway!)

that's a bit shit if they've delivered something you didn't even order, and a larger quantity than the correct order???

anyways if you're keeping it and it freezes (i've frozen skimmed before but never tried it with full fat) go for it and use it at your leisure!

Edit: really is shit if you have to pay for delivery

Hedgehogs like milk, I leave some out every night for a baby hedgehog.
I am also going to contruct a hedgehog house out of a carboard box and make a little duvet for it.

Aww - the duvet :)

Anyway -ahum - milk freezes fine. I regularly freeze a pint or two in case of emergencies - just shake it once it's defrosted.

Doesn't cow's milk harm them - or is that a myth ?

I was having a delivery anyway, so just got a freebie! Probably someone else's milk that got put with my delivery by mistake.

Could you send me some - I have about a teaspoon left. I don't mind if it's a bit irradiated from being sent over the internet. ;)

Milk cakes, milk pie, milk an onions, milk on toast, deep-fried milk, chips peas & milk........there's loadsa stuff you can do with milk

Milk freezes well, but one little tip - when defrosting place the bottle in a large bowl or pan. Milk expands on freezing and can split the plastic bottles if you're unlucky - as my folks found out to their cost. Four pints of milk goes a very long way on the kitchen floor!!

Or you could make cheese - I've seen recipes on the web somewhere (on a self sufficiency site?), it doesn't look difficult and it's supposed to be very nice.
