help my carrots!

I went to check my carrots today. I planted them in April so was hoping they might almost be ready to harvest soon.

What's gone wrong

foliage looks green enough .. just not very much of it.

I hesitate to suggest it might have been lack of water ....

Stony / compacted ground ?

Did they actually germinate in April ?

Give them a bit longer.

Unless you like baby carrots.

I just thinned out some more carrots and came home with a bin bag full of them. They're the best carrots i've ever grown and i'm sure it's down to the soil. They're in raised beds and the soil is well rotted turf scrapings from sports fields, a very sandy loam and completely free of stones, clay etc.
