the proprietary software is wank. go for any of the others - i prefer creative

That's tommy-rot, Dub.
But the best MP3 players are:
Creative and Apple

Apple iPods are the most popular, Creative are quite good.

ignore the others, they are not 'there'.
If you like technology, and enjoy farting about, get a Creative; if you want something that's dead easy to use, get an iPod. if you have loads of DRM-protected WMA files, get a Creative.

  I am the person who went back to nokia because she couldn't work the samsung phone she was given. I am a bit of a technophobe :o

I want to turn a thing on, press a button and hear music thank you :)
Oh and plug it into the pc and click a button and it download. The idea of programmes and software kinda scares me.
Has to be Creative then.

Drag and drop. It comes with a CD ripper and fancy organising software but I never use it. I have a 1 GByte Zen Nano with quite a few features, but it's so tiny I can barely read the display, but in practice I drag and drop a dozen or so 1 hour mixes on and off it using Explorer and only use the on button, back / forwards and volume control.

A one time equaliser tweak for the Sennheisers I bought for it and that's it. The radio is crap though.

I was thinking of getting the one from Aldi on Sunday, and just spending the £100 I'll get(from the instant replacement warranty thing) on games and stuff.

£27.99 for this and it's guaranteed for 3 yrs!!

Get an MP3 what takes cards. I grabbed one for £19 and and 3 one gig SDs for £25. Easy.

Where did you get if from? I'm looking at going this way, but most of the players I've seen will only take 1GB cards.

Samsung K5 looks rather lovely - all touch screen, minimalistic - got FM radio and built in speakers. Seems to be getting good reviews.

Amazon are doing 1 Gig version for about £80. You can also get 2 and 4Gb versions

Erm if it took you an hour to master the controls (compared to all of 60 seconds with an iPod) I think the intuitive thing is definitely not bollox!:p

i played with an ipod for about haf an hour ... i wasn't too keen on the conrols

i messed about with my creative and i could play music after a few seconds... it just took me a little longer to work out all the menus all the settings program the radio and adjust the brighness

working in seconds mastered in about an hour... thats good enough for me... the ipod isn't that amazingly intuitive... it took my aunt a while to learn to use her suffle and that one is basic as fuck

Sorry-still only takes a 1 gig card max. I meant that I got three * 1 gig cards.

Yep I would definitely go for a Creative - I've heard lots of horror stories of Ipods breaking, getting viruses and conking out after a year.

Creative have a much better repution for reliability :)

You forgot about all the stories about them exploding due to problems with the glass...? ;)

I wouldn't bother. That touchscreen is bound to fail really quickly.

Creative's are a step above iPods.. don't look as nice in some models, but they're technically better. In the video arena, the Vision:M pisses on the iPod.

iPods are wank - bought by unimaginative, social climbers who think having balsamic vinegar in the cupboard makes them "sophisticated"...

Also, iTunes is a mega, behemoth of an application that will suck your computer dry and guarantee that every song your ever buy legitimately can only ever be played on Mr Job's crappy, styled by Moulinex, iPods.....

Avoid Sony at all costs, they just haven't kept up with the mobile music world - disappointing players, truly, mind blowingly awful software.

If I were in the market to buy today, I'd probably look at Creative stuff first.

You've got balsamic vinegar in your cupboard, haven't you? :(

I bet you go to IKEA at the weekend as well......:( :(

Yeah avoid Sony like the plague, they're over priced and their software is insanely bad.
I have the Sony NW-HD1 which is a fantastic device. The default software Sonicstage is indeed wank, but alllow a bit of initial patience and you can sort the music rather easily.

sound quality is stunning and is simple to use. Mine is the 20gig which holds upto 13000 tracks.

yeah had my 5gb creative zen for 2 years now and it still works fine. even after i forcibly threw it at the ground (by accident!) the creative site took me through the steps of reformatting it and got it back to normal.

one thing about ipods is that they don't have a removable battery which is shit as the battery life slowly goes over time. i've got two batteries for my creative which means i rarely have to take a charger anywhere.

as someone who works in music, the attitude of the itunes store towards independent music is so frustrating that its put me off anything to do with ipods! and the fact that macs don't recognise other mp3 players is

Macs are shit, iPods are shit, iTunes is shit.

A hat trick of crapness.

Best avoided at all costs.

Simple don't use it, I've had an iPod since the 1st one and I've never installed iTunes.

www.ephpod.com

Unfortunately this does not work well on the very latest and the guy has never really got round to updating it.
