Help me worm my cat.

Success, I managed to worm her by the wrapping her up in a towel method and a bit of brute force. Wasn't to bad in the end.

Thanks for all the advice and good luck beeboo.

Well first attempt at medicating the cat last night. The syringe of medicine went down without too much difficulty - only a quick gurgle and choking noise from the cat.

Tablets an entirely different matter - about five attempts, with her wedged between my knees, and her emitting a tortured yowl/growl. Every time I got the tablet in, clamped her mouth shut and massaged her throat. Thought she'd swallowed, let go of her mouth and she immediately spat it back out into my face - pinged it straight out like a pinball!

Eventually it was too soggy for repeated attempts and I mashed it up with a bit of food. Still took ages as needed to wait until she ate the food, find the bits of tablet she avoided, mash them up with more food and repeat.

This morning she was wise to the syringe, and had a right faff trying to get her to take it. The medicine is about two pounds a shot so can't waste any squirting in her eye.

Twice a day for the next four weeks! I reckon it is taking half an hour a time at the moment!

For tablets, try crushing them up with a very small bit of their favourite food before feeding them (ie when they're hungry), it's much easier that way to make sure they get the full dose, rather than chasing bits round the bowl.

A pestle and mortar comes in very handy, but if you ain't got one of these, vets and pet shops usually sell pill cutters and crushers pretty cheaply.

Beeboo, try wrapping her up in a towel nice and tight, just like you swaddle a baby. It works wonders and makes them really passive :)

I try the 'swaddling' thing to get her in the cat basket and it doesn't tend to work (for me).

We had another twenty minute battle this morning, but in the end I stuck the pill in a bit of tuna and she wolfed it

Hehe, no, not with one of mine it doesn't! Didn't matter how tightly I wrapped her, she still escaped and caused major damage. A mate of mine who kindly offered to help still has the scars from the lacerations on his back and shoulders

Good luck, and my sympathies beeboo!! Tried crushing the tabs and mixing with tuna? edit to add: ah, I see you have :)

Two spoons will do the job, no need to go out and buy stuff

I'm hoping the tuna trick will continue to work, as that makes life loads easier. I've still got the syringe of medicine to contend with though every day. Today most of it end up round her face rather than in her mouth - I'm hoping that she'll eventually swallow it when she washes it off! I wonder if I could just empty the contents of the syringe onto the tuna with the tablet???

Don't see why not, it's all ending up in the same place anyway isn't it? Just make sure you do it when she's hungry, or that taste of it in the tuna could put her off. The tuna thing works great on both of mine, and one has been on pills for 3 weeks now, with a week to go. Now she sits and watches me prepping her drugs and can't wait hehe :D

Dogs are dead easy to drug though compared to cats. You've got to be either really crafty or really brave (ie stupid) with cats.

I've just counted up and I can count 10 minor lacerations on my hands from drugging battles, and one fairly severe three inch cut on my thigh from an attempt to wedge the little beast between my knees.

The scars from previous run-ins with Deathclaws are too numerous to mention.

Love her to pieces though.

Yowser! I'm not too bad actually - that mate I mentioned got it far worse than me hehehe. I'm that much of a pussy though that it took me months to pluck up the courage to get the wild one into a cat basket by the scruff of the neck :o
